Refresh time ❤️ I first tattooed this beautiful face in 2018… lips, eyeliner & brows…. Over the years everything fades perfectly & naturally to a softer version of the original tattoo, maintenance colour boosts every few years keeps the tattooing looking exactly as intended ✨ natural, timeless & age appropriate. (Tattooing will soften & fade once healed) x

✨💁🏻‍♀️ Fresh scar work means nothing. 💁🏻‍♀️💫Healed scar work means everything… this is where you judge!

Scar Realism is my approach to scar camouflage tattooing.

The goal is never obvious coverage. The goal is super natural, healed results that sit quietly in your skin.

When medical tattooing for scars is done properly, it shouldn’t look like tattooing. It should look like harmony.

Healed scar work is where the real standard is measured. Once the skin has settled and pigment has integrated, what remains should feel believable in natural light, at different angles and over time.

Over the years, I’ve refined my scar camouflage technique to prioritise conservative placement, tonal accuracy and staged treatment planning. Not chasing dramatic fresh results, but focusing on outcomes that heal consistently and predictably.

Scar camouflage cannot remove a scar. It focuses on blending uneven tone to restore visual balance in a way that feels subtle, balanced and undetectably natural.

If you’re unsure whether your scar is suitable for tattooing, I offer complimentary consultations to assess readiness and discuss realistic expectations.

Built on Results, Not Optics.

In a world full of AI, curated feeds and marketed “experts”, it’s fair to ask how you choose someone who can actually deliver.

Healed work speaks louder than marketing.

Over the past decade, my reputation hasn’t been built on big claims or perfectly edited photos. It’s been built on consistent outcomes, work that heals well and holds up over time.

I’m a multi award winning Australian cosmetic and medical tattooist, nationally and internationally recognised speaker, published contributor and advanced technical trainer. I mentor and educate experienced practitioners because real expertise isn’t created by content. It’s developed in the treatment room through experience, reflection and accountability to results. I don’t do shortcuts.

My work spans cosmetic tattooing, medical tattooing for scars and complex skin cases. It’s grounded in careful assessment, disciplined technique and doing things properly, even when that means saying no.

If you’re at the beginning, remember we all start from the beginning. The rest comes down to tenacity and how bad you want to get good. ✨✌️✨💁🏻‍♀️ Kat x

High visibility scars require predictability.

Not guesswork.
Not rushed colour.
Not hopeful blending.

When a scar sits on your face, chest, hands or forearms, it lives in natural light. Every day. There is no hiding. No forgiving angles.

And natural light tells the truth.

High visibility areas amplify:

• Texture irregularity
• Light scatter
• Uneven pigment retention
• Subtle value errors
• Inflammation responses

What looks acceptable in a studio can look completely different outdoors.

That’s why I approach visible scars differently.

Because the margin for error is smaller.

Because pigment behaviour must be forecasted, not assumed.

Because scar density, collagen alignment and vascular activity directly influence how colour heals.

Because visible scars deserve staged treatment, not instant correction.

Sometimes that means refinement before camouflage.
Sometimes that means delaying pigment.
Sometimes that means saying not yet.

Predictability protects you.

It protects your long-term outcome.
It protects your confidence in daylight.
And it protects the integrity of the skin itself.

High visibility scars aren’t treated casually here.
They’re assessed. Planned. Staged.

Because when the world sees it every day,
it has to be right.

This is one of the comparison cases I use in my consultations - which brings me to the question everyone wants to know… texture or tone?

What is the most important- one, the other or both?

Why? Because what people want as a healed outcome is so subjective and the level of refinement can vary significantly depending on what their end goal. This is where the conversation starts & real life advice, options & outcomes can begin.
