Check out our new blog from Western Myotherapy on Desk Pain: Causes, Symptoms & How Myotherapy Can Help You Feel Better

In today’s digital world, spending long hours at a desk has become the norm, often leading to desk pain. While this shift has improved productivity in many ways, it’s also led to a growing number of people experiencing daily discomfort such as nagging neck tension and persistent lower back pain.

If you’ve ever finished a workday feeling stiff, sore, or fatigued, you’re not alone. Desk-related pain is one of the most common issues we see in myotherapy and remedial massage clinics. The good news? It’s manageable and often preventable.

Let’s explore what’s really causing your discomfort and how you can start feeling better.

June is Lipoedema Awareness Month

Lipoedema is a chronic and often misunderstood condition that primarily affects women. It causes an abnormal build-up of fatty tissue, most commonly in the legs, hips, buttocks, and sometimes the arms. Many people living with lipoedema experience pain, tenderness, easy bruising, swelling, and a feeling of heaviness that can significantly impact daily life.

Unfortunately, lipoedema is frequently mistaken for obesity or lymphoedema, resulting in delayed diagnosis and treatment. Increased awareness is essential to help individuals access appropriate support and management strategies sooner. However, it is possible for lipoedema to progress to secondary lymphoedema, since the fatty deposits can impact on the ability for lymph fluid to be transported.
As a dedicated lymphoedema therapist, Jacqueline Bate is committed to raising awareness, supporting those affected, and advocating for improved recognition of this condition.

If you have concerns about persistent swelling, pain, or changes in your limbs that don't seem to respond to diet and exercise, you should book in with your local ALA-accredited Lymphoedema therapist (https://www.lymphoedema.org.au/accreditation-nlpr/find-a-practitioner/)

New Blog Alert!!!!

What Is Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis) and How Can It Be Managed?

Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition characterised by pain, stiffness, and markedly reduced shoulder movement. It usually develops slowly, worsens over time, and then gradually improves. While recovery can take one to three years, the right management can help reduce pain, maintain mobility, and support a smoother recovery.

Frozen shoulder often develops when the shoulder has been kept still for long periods, such as after injury or surgery. At our myotherapy clinic in Hoppers Crossing, we commonly see clients experiencing shoulder pain and restriction, and frozen shoulder is a condition that benefits greatly from early, guided care.

The term “frozen” shoulder refers to the cycle that often develops pain which leads to reduced movement, and reduced movement causes further tightening of the joint capsule, making the shoulder feel “stuck.”

Check out our new blog on "Ready for Winter Sport? Prepare your body with pre-season Injury Prevention" at Western Myotherapy.

Pre-season injury prevention is worth prioritising as temperatures drop and winter sport ramps up. Netball courts fill, AFL pre-season training begins, and many athletes return to structured competition after months away.

While the excitement of a new season is motivating, your body may not be fully prepared for the sudden increase in intensity. Going from limited activity to sprinting, jumping, tackling, and rapid direction changes can place significant stress on muscles and joints particularly if you’ve had time off.

Before the first whistle blows, it’s worth asking: is your body ready for the demands ahead and have you prioritised pre-season injury prevention?
