Numbness in your ring and little fingers? It could be cubital tunnel syndrome.

Cubital tunnel syndrome happens when the **ulnar nerve** becomes compressed or irritated around the elbow. This can cause tingling, numbness or discomfort that travels into the ring and little fingers.

Common symptoms can include:
• Pins and needles in the ring and little fingers
• Numbness that comes and goes
• Aching or discomfort around the elbow
• Weak grip or hand weakness
• Symptoms that worsen when the elbow stays bent for long periods

If the numbness is persistent, getting worse or affecting your grip and everyday activities, a GP assessment can help identify the cause and guide the right next steps.

Tiny rough bumps on your arms that never seem to go away? It could be keratosis pilaris.

Keratosis pilaris is a common skin condition caused by a build-up of keratin that blocks the hair follicles. It often appears as small, rough bumps on the upper arms, thighs, cheeks or buttocks.

You may notice:
• Tiny skin-coloured or reddish bumps
• Dry or rough-feeling skin
• Mild redness or irritation
• Bumps that can become more noticeable in colder or drier weather

Keratosis pilaris is generally harmless, but if the area is persistent, irritated or you’re unsure what the bumps are, a GP review can help confirm the cause and discuss suitable skin-care options.

Your doctor heard a heart murmur — what does it actually mean? ❤️

A heart murmur is an extra or unusual sound heard during a heartbeat. Some murmurs are harmless, while others may be linked to problems with the heart valves or the way blood is flowing through the heart.

Depending on the cause, some people may have no symptoms at all. Others may experience:
• Shortness of breath
• Chest discomfort
• Dizziness or fainting
• Fatigue
• Palpitations
• Swelling in the legs or ankles

If a heart murmur has been detected, your GP may recommend further assessment such as an ECG, blood tests or an echocardiogram depending on your symptoms and medical history.

⚠️ If you develop severe chest pain, significant shortness of breath, fainting or rapidly worsening symptoms, seek urgent medical care.

Waking up several times a night to urinate? It could be nocturia.

Nocturia means waking during the night to pass urine. While it can become more common with age, frequent night-time urination may also be linked to other health issues and shouldn’t always be dismissed as “just getting older”.

Possible causes can include:
• Enlarged prostate
• Overactive bladder
• Diabetes
• Urinary tract problems
• Sleep apnoea
• Heart or kidney conditions
• Certain medicines or drinking too much fluid late in the evening

If night-time urination is repeatedly disturbing your sleep or has recently become worse, a GP review can help identify the cause and guide the right treatment.

Painful swelling near your breastbone? It could be Tietze syndrome.

Tietze syndrome is an inflammatory condition that affects the cartilage where the ribs join the breastbone. It can cause localised chest pain, tenderness and noticeable swelling around the upper ribs or sternum.

Symptoms may include:
• Pain near the breastbone
• Tenderness when pressing the area
• Visible or noticeable swelling
• Pain that may worsen with movement, coughing or deep breathing

Chest pain should always be taken seriously because other conditions can cause similar symptoms.

⚠️ If the pain is severe, sudden, spreading to the arm or jaw, or comes with shortness of breath, sweating, nausea or dizziness, seek urgent medical care.

For ongoing chest wall pain or swelling, book a GP review to help determine the cause and guide the right next steps.

Chest pain and unusual fatigue after a viral infection? Your heart may need attention.

Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle. It can sometimes occur after a viral infection and may affect how well the heart pumps and how its electrical system works.

Possible symptoms can include:
• Chest pain or tightness
• Unusual tiredness or weakness
• Shortness of breath
• Heart palpitations or a racing heartbeat
• Feeling light-headed or faint

These symptoms can have many causes, but persistent chest symptoms after an illness should be medically assessed.

⚠️ If chest pain is severe, worsening, associated with significant breathlessness, fainting or you feel seriously unwell, seek urgent medical care or call 000.

Persistent bone pain, anaemia and kidney problems? It may be worth investigating further.

Multiple myeloma is a type of blood cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow. Symptoms can vary and may develop gradually, which means they can sometimes be mistaken for other conditions.

Possible warning signs may include:
• Persistent bone or back pain
• Unexplained anaemia and fatigue
• Recurrent infections
• Kidney problems
• Unexplained weakness or generally feeling unwell

These symptoms can have many different causes, but if they are persistent, recurring or unexplained, a medical review is important. Your GP can assess your symptoms and arrange appropriate blood, urine or imaging tests if needed.

Early assessment can help identify what is happening and guide the right next steps.

Ear pain after a cold should not be ignored. 👂

Otitis media is a middle ear infection that can happen after a cold or upper respiratory infection. It can cause ear pain, fever, reduced hearing, a blocked feeling in the ear, irritability in children, and sometimes trouble sleeping.

If you or your child have ongoing ear pain, fever, or worsening symptoms, it is a good idea to get checked early. Prompt assessment can help identify the cause and guide the right treatment.

Blood pressure still high despite taking multiple medicines? It may be resistant hypertension.

Resistant hypertension is when blood pressure remains above target despite treatment with several blood pressure medicines, or requires multiple medicines to keep it controlled.

Sometimes the reason is related to medication timing, lifestyle factors or other underlying conditions such as kidney disease, sleep apnoea or hormonal problems. That’s why ongoing high readings should be properly reviewed rather than simply adding more medication without assessment.

A GP review may help check your blood pressure pattern, current medicines, possible contributing factors and whether further tests are needed.

⚠️ If you develop a very high blood pressure reading with chest pain, severe headache, shortness of breath, confusion, weakness or vision changes, seek urgent medical care.
