This week we concluded Bright Blue Bliss May with our Cobalt Creations theme. Clients were invited to explore themes of connection, healing, respect, and play through creative expression and shared experiences. “Cobalt” represents depth, communication, and emotional truth, reminding us that even difficult histories and emotions can be held safely and expressed through creative processes. Through art, movement, storytelling, and collaborative activities, we focused on repair, belonging, and gentle connection with self, others, and community. It was a week full of creativity, connection, and moments of real engagement, curiosity, and shared joy throughout the program.

This week we celebrated “Bright Blue Bliss May” with our “Skyline Stories” theme in honour of Mental Health Awareness Week and Chocolate Chip Day. Participants enjoyed a range of sensory and reflective activities including making stress balls, bliss balls, worry dolls, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” bracelets, self-portrait collages, and spending time reflecting on the things that help us feel balanced, calm, and happy. It was a beautiful week filled with creativity, connection, mindfulness, and lots of smiles 🙂

This week we celebrated the final week of Glorious Green Groove April with “Forest Fantasies”, inspired by World Design Day and International Dance Day.
There were so many creative inventions brought to life and plenty of fun, expressive dance moves throughout the day!
Kindness cupcakes were also made and shared between clients, celebrating connection, generosity, and community spirit. 💚

This week we celebrated Glorious Green Groove April with “Mint Moments” — marking World Creativity and Innovation Day, Earth Day, Jelly Bean Day, and ANZAC Day. The week was all about curiosity, playful discovery, and fun experiments, with lots of hands-on activities, creativity, and shared moments of learning together.

This week we celebrated Glorious Groovy Green April with our “Jade Journeys” theme, inspired by World Circus Day.
Clients explored self-expression, movement, and trust through circus-themed art, sensory experiences, and playful challenges.
We also enjoyed a wonderful outing to the Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre in Ararat, which was a real highlight of the week!

🌿✨ This week we celebrated renewal, vitality, and imagination with our Emerald Essence theme! Inspired by World Health Day, Draw a Bird Day, and Unicorn Day, our clients enjoyed pampering foot and hand spas, massages, planting seeds, and a beautiful outing to Warracknabeal Flora and Fauna Park. 💛🌸

Interview with our amazing participant Phoenix 🌟
1. What do you love most about coming to the Shine Day Program?
I love seeing everyone and having fun together. I enjoy being playful and stirring people up a bit — it makes the days really lively.
2. Can you share one of your favourite memories from your time in the Shine Program?
My favourite memory was my first day at Shine because it made me feel at home, empowered, and free to be myself.
3. Did you try anything new or outside of your comfort zone while being part of the Shine Program?
We used an AI generator to turn a photo of me into a cartoon version of myself. After that, I challenged myself to draw the cartoon, which was something new for me.
4. Is there a particular project or artwork you’ve created in Shine that you’re especially proud of?
I’m really proud of a drawing I created that turned out more complex, abstract, and bold than I expected. It showed me that I can push my creativity further than I thought.
5. Which outing did you enjoy the most with Shine, and why did it stand out for you?
I really enjoyed the Field Days, especially the virtual mask that showed a 360-degree landscape — I could picture everything happening!
6. How do you feel about the staff and other participants at Shine?
I love them all. They make me feel really comfortable and supported — like they are my second family.
7. What’s one thing you’ve learned or discovered about yourself since joining the Shine Program?
I’ve discovered that I’m more creative and patient than I realised. I’ve also learned that I can focus on delicate work and take my time to create something meaningful.

This week we celebrated “Daffodil Delights” — a reminder of hope, renewal, and resilience 💛
We explored World Meteorological Day, Puppy Day 🐾, and Crayon Day through creative and playful experiences — from our crayon dancing wall to yellow jelly balancing fun and meaningful outings like “catnap”.
Such a joyful week 🌼

This week we celebrated Yellow Yonder March with our Sunshine Soiree theme, filling our sessions with the bright, golden hues of optimism, friendship, and hope. We marked St Patrick’s Day, International Day of Happiness, World Down Syndrome Day with fun odd socks, and World Poetry Day, celebrating creativity and joy at every turn.
We also had the wonderful Isabelle Hoskins visit our centre to share her fabulous “Slay Queen” film. We’re so grateful to Isabelle for the joy and inspiration she brought.
A big thank you to everyone for making this such a fun and memorable week!
