Last week, Anowah attended the Volunteer and Pathways to Employment Expo at UWS Bankstown.

It was a great day connecting with students, job seekers, volunteers and community members who are exploring their next steps and looking for meaningful opportunities to make a difference.

We had some fantastic conversations about careers in the disability sector, the value of volunteering, and the many ways people can contribute to creating more inclusive communities. It was encouraging to meet so many people who are passionate about supporting others and keen to learn more about the opportunities available.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat. We enjoyed sharing what we do and learning more about the goals, aspirations and experiences of the people we met along the way.

This World MS Day, we’re standing with people living with multiple sclerosis, and recognising the strength it takes to navigate life with a condition that is often unseen, but deeply felt.

MS can affect each person differently, from fatigue and mobility challenges to cognitive changes and unpredictable symptoms. Behind every experience is a person showing resilience in ways many may never fully see.

Let’s remind ourselves to listen more closely, to approach others with empathy, and to keep building a community where everyone has space to belong.

Our latest cooking program with Cherry Tree Cooks was full of flavour, creativity, and hands-on fun.

This session, participants made German chicken patties served with potato patties and a rich sauce featuring chicken stock, coconut cream, capers, broccoli, and colourful capsicum. For dessert, we finished with a delicious Almond Orange Halva Cake, topped with a lightly thickened orange sauce 🍊

At Anowah, our cooking program is designed to be inclusive and tailored to each participant’s dietary requirements, ensuring everyone can get involved and enjoy the experience.

And the best part? At the end of each term, every participant receives their own personalised recipe book filled with photos and recipes from the program ❤️

We believe strong sector collaboration leads to stronger outcomes for people with disability. That’s why being part of the South-West Sydney Support Coordinators Network (SWSSCN) is so important. The network creates a space for professionals across the disability sector to come together, share knowledge, discuss challenges, and stay informed on changes within the NDIS and wider community.

At the latest SWSSCN meeting, we heard valuable insights from the NSW Ageing and Disability Commission and the NDIA Provider Education team, sparking important conversations around safeguarding, provider updates, and sector collaboration.

These conversations matter, because when services work together, people with disabilities are better supported.

National Sorry Day marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week, a time for reflection, respect, and meaningful conversation across the country.

Today is about recognising the strength and resilience of the Stolen Generations, and the lasting impact their experiences continue to have on families and communities.

It’s also a reminder that reconciliation is not a single act, but an ongoing commitment, one that asks us to listen more deeply, learn more honestly, and walk forward with greater understanding.

Anowah stands with the spirit of reconciliation by encouraging awareness, respect, and connection in everything we do.

Let today be a moment to reflect, to learn, and to move forward together with purpose.

Every success story starts with a journey worth recognising.

Recently, Anowah had the opportunity to attend Passion in Action, an event focused on celebrating the achievements of people living with disability and sharing the experiences that shaped their paths. These conversations are an important reminder that the disability sector grows stronger when we take the time to listen, learn and lead with empathy.
By continuing to prioritise person-centred support, encouraging choice and independence, and valuing lived experience, we can help create communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

One of the most impactful parts of the day was seeing so many passionate people come together with a shared goal of improving outcomes for others. From hearing diverse perspectives to learning more about the services available within the community, the event created meaningful opportunities to connect, collaborate and strengthen support networks across the sector.

A huge thank you to Wesley Mission, Connect Community & Respite Services and everyone involved in making the event such a welcoming and valuable experience.
We’re proud to be part of conversations that continue to move the sector forward and create stronger, more inclusive communities. 💙

When passion is turned into action, real impact follows, through collaboration, shared knowledge, open conversations and people coming together with a genuine desire to make a difference.

Today, we recognise Global Accessibility Awareness Day, a reminder that accessibility isn’t a feature, it’s a right.

For many people, barriers still exist in ways others may never notice, from digital access and communication, to physical environments and social inclusion. Today is a chance to reflect on those barriers, but more importantly, to challenge them.

At Anowah, we’re committed to creating meaningful opportunities where people of all abilities can connect, grow, and belong. Because true inclusion isn’t just about opening doors, it’s about making sure everyone can walk through them with confidence.
Let’s continue to listen, learn, and take action toward a more inclusive world, not just today, but every day.

Recently, members of our team participated in specialised diabetes management training delivered through a pilot initiative led by Diabetes Australia, with support from Nib Thrive.

The training focused on practical diabetes care, including glucose monitoring, insulin administration, and building confidence in supporting people living with both disability and diabetes.

As the needs of our community continue to evolve, opportunities like this help our staff expand their capabilities and better support participants with complex health needs.

A big thank you to Diabetes Australia and nib Foundation for facilitating this important learning opportunity.
