In my mind probably one of the most famous and well loved plants used in human history. Chamomile (in this case German Chamomile -
Matricaria chamomilla) is a herb that seemingly does everything.
From ancient and medieval times, Chamomile has been used from anything from stomach issues like digestive pain, cramping, cooling fevers and general malaise (perfect for kids) as well as menstrual pain and discomfort. It was also used as a poultice for swellings, a wash and for those wealthy enough to have this option...in baths!
Modern day healers use this herb in all of these ways and probably more, I've even used it in wound healing creams for its anti microbial effect, probably something ancient and medieval people before they knew what bacteria and microbes were. It really is an incredible herb that I need to remind myself how versatile it is.
Last night one of my kids were feeling suddenly unwell, fever and sore tummy and Chamomile tea was the only thing he were interested in! So it's always a relief to have these options in the house and makes them feel like they are part of the solution or healing.
Together with celloid mineral salts and trusty Chamomile tea, we managed to allay the worst of the symptoms, allowing "mostly" decent sleep for them (not so much for me!).
If you'd like to know more or discuss how herbs can help you please comment or get in touch. I'm always happy to talk herbs and how they can still be extremely relevant (I'd say indispensable)in our modern world.
