National Reconciliation Week invites all of us to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements—and to recommit to reconciliation and justice for First Nations peoples. This year’s theme, All In, is a call to show up wholeheartedly, not just this week, but every day.

Wellbeing is part of that commitment too. Food is one way we can care for ourselves and our families—making time for regular meals, water and nourishing choices that help us feel steady and supported as we do the work of listening, learning and taking action.

🕛Take a moment this week to listen, learn and show up—join a local event, share trusted First Nations voices, and keep choosing actions that support reconciliation every day.

World Lupus Day is recognised each year on 10 May. This year’s theme, Make Lupus Visible, shines a light on lupus—its often-hidden symptoms, and the very real day-to-day challenges many people face. With over 25,000 Australians living with lupus, every conversation helps build understanding and support.

💜Put On Purple on 10 May to show solidarity and help spark conversations.

💟This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the mums, grandmothers, carers and mother-figures who give so much of themselves every day. If you’re looking for a thoughtful gift, a nutrition consultation gift voucher is a gentle way to say: your health matters too—at every age and stage.

Reach out to purchase a one-on-one consultation gift voucher with a Nutrition NSW Accredited Dietitian.

“Advocating for women’s health means reminding ourselves that self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential. In our busy, full lives, taking a moment to nourish ourselves helps us show up for the people we love. This Mother’s Day do something for yourself.” Cr Barbara Ward, Nutrition NSW President.

Maternal mental health matters—and so does nourishment. Research in Australia suggests many new mums find it hard to meet basic nutrition and hydration needs, often as they juggle recovery, breastfeeding and the constant mental load of early parenthood.

Australian research also indicates that over 90% of new mothers aren’t meeting fruit and vegetable guidelines, and many experience iron and iodine inadequacies—commonly linked to time pressure, increased demands, and not having the right support at the right moment.

If food feels like 'one more thing' on your list, keeping a few high-nutrient basics on hand can make eating well feel more doable. Here are some pantry and fridge staples for quick, nourishing snacks with minimal prep:

🔻Wholegrain oats: comforting, fibre-rich and easy to turn into a quick breakfast or snack.
🔻High-protein Greek yoghurt: a simple option for calcium and protein—add fruit, nuts or oats if you can.
🔻Roasted nuts and seeds: perfect for “one-handed” snacking and a source of healthy fats.
🔻Canned legumes and oily fish: quick protein and iron additions for salads, wraps or toast.
🔻Specialised lactation snacks: if you choose them, look for options developed with nutrition professionals to help support breastfeeding.

Celebrate cultural diversity with Harmony Week!

Australia’s cultural diversity is at the heart of who we are — and food is one of the easiest ways to connect.

This Harmony Week (16–22 March), let’s come together through flavour, tradition and shared meals — celebrating the cultures that make our communities stronger.

“Australia’s cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths. Harmony Day is an opportunity to celebrate the many cultures that shape who we are — and food is often where those connections begin.” Cr Barbara Ward, Nutrition Australia NSW President.
