To wrap up National Reconciliation Week, members of our team attended the Mabo Day celebrations at Good Counsel College today.

​It was a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey toward reconciliation, and inspiring to see the next generation honouring the legacy of our Indigenous pioneers.

A huge thank you to the students and staff—witnessing the traditional dances was a spectacular way to finish the week.

Today, 29th May, we celebrate Torres Strait Islander Flag Day! First presented in 1992 and designed by the late Bernard Namok Senior, this flag is a powerful symbol of unity, identity, and deep connection.

Every piece tells a story:
💚 Green represents the land and mainlands.
💙 Blue represents the sacred, surrounding waters.
🖤 Black symbolises the Torres Strait Islander peoples.
🤍 The white Dhari (headdress) and star stand for cultural heritage, navigation, and the five major island groups.

We are so proud to celebrate the rich history, resilience, and incredible contributions of Torres Strait Islander peoples right here in our own community. Happy Flag Day! 🏝️✨

We’re thrilled to invite you to the Cassowary Coast First Nations Art Show 2026, a celebration of the incredible talent and cultural heritage of our local First Nations artists.

📍 Where: Shire Hall Auditorium

✨ A stunning showcase of artworks, including painting, weaving, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, and more.
✨ Free weaving workshops for all ages.

We are absolutely blown away by the support at our Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea events across our clinics over the past week!

Together, we raised $600 for vital cancer research, processed 20 screening referrals, booked 3 GP appointments, and got heaps of health resources straight into community hands. 🩺

A massive special shout-out to Monica, who organised and supported the teams to host these events completely on her own. Pulling this off solo is a true testament to her incredible commitment to raising cancer awareness for our mob.

Today, Mamu HSL pauses to observe National Sorry Day, honoring the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children forcibly removed from their families, communities, and country. We acknowledge the profound, enduring trauma experienced by the Stolen Generations and their descendants, recognizing that the pain of these past policies still impacts generations today.

For Mamu HSL, this day reaffirms our commitment to healing, reconciliation, and cultural safety. True health is deeply rooted in identity and family, and we remain dedicated to supporting our community's healing journey while working toward a future where the dignity and rights of all First Nations people are fully protected.
