Looking back at the day the doors at 10 Ernest St were officially opened by Mayor Barry Moyle and Aunty Nancy Epong.

Seeing these photos reminds us of all the hard work that went into this space and the incredible people who made it happen. We especially want to honor the loved ones captured in these moments who are no longer with us todayโ€”their presence and legacy are still felt here every single day.

Today, 10 Ernest Street opens its doors for the final time as a GP service. As we farewell this building, we're taking a moment to look back at where it all began.

These photos capture the construction of our first purpose-built clinic in the late 1980s, before the service moved from its original premises (where Harvey Norman's fridges section sits) into a place of its own.

Our story officially began on 1 May 1990, when we were incorporated as Mamu Medical Service Limited (becoming Mamu Health Service Limited in 2002). But the foundations were laid long before then by the vision, determination and advocacy of our Elders. They fought for a space that was ours - healthcare by our community, for our community.

While this building's chapter as a GP service comes to a close today, the legacy of the Elders who stood on this ground and made it possible continues to guide us.
