Ipswich Plant Swap

Ipswich Plant Swap Creating a sustainable Ipswich through environmentally responsible plant swapping & knowledge sharing If you feel like this could be your happy place.

Ipswich Plant Swap is an informal community group that has a vision of greening Ipswich through the sharing of plants with one another. We encourage and advocate for the sharing of native and food plants, but allow for the sharing of plants that are not considered a threat to the natural environment. The concept is that you bring plant cuttings and potted plants (considering your fire-ant zone) th

at you have and swap them with plants you are seeking from other members who have done the same. If you have no plants to share, don't worry, there are always freebies and we will always welcome you with a smile and friendly conversation. We meet at the Leichhardt One Mile Community Centre (in the community garden that shares the fence line with 19 Denman Street) at 1-17 Denman Street, Leichhardt on the third Saturday of each month at 9.30am until 1pm. Everyone is welcome, there are no membership fees and we don't sell. We will however offer sausage sizzles, soft drinks and tea and coffee for a small fee to fundraise for the Leichhardt Community Centre. We are currently in the process of co-designing the former Community Garden with the entire Ipswich Community so it can be a place that the whole community can connect with. The community garden will be a place for healing, learning, connecting and strengthening community. Like our page and join our group (www.facebook.com/groups/ipswichplantswap) where all the action happens.

Consider Swapping Your Worms!!!
... and by that I mean composting worms!

With all these worm farms being distributed across the city, residents will likely turn to bunnings and commercial farmers and pay around $80 to $100 for 1000 worms as that's how many they they'll convince you you'll need.

I know there are many worm farmers out there like me that would be willing to share (and pass on knowledge) with a fair trade of plants, delicious jams, baked goods or assistance in the garden.

Its important to know that worm populations double every couple of months and breed rapidly when they have room to do so. That means a hundred or so would get you started.

Don't know how to worm farm? Council have provided some very useful tutorial videos here https://share.google/gn8wFohntOCqy8tsz

Just a reminder there will be no swap in May given the 3rd Saturday falls on the Ipswich Show.

But... the admin team will be presenting the Show Garden that we have been working on behind the scenes along side the Ipswich Show, Hauser's Horticulture, Horticultural Society, The Mountain Man, Froggy Creek, Trevallan Lifestyle Centre and Bremer Catchment Association.

Have you ever broken the handle of your garden equipment?

I have... many times.

Instead of throwing it out, weld on a bit of pipe (old trampoline frame in this case)

If it's got a steel handle already, even better! Weld it back on. Feels good to waste less.
