This is why I always say cheaper isn’t always cheaper.
A product being sold as an “essential oil blend” has now been questioned after the safety information showed it contained synthetic fragrance ingredients, not just essential oils.
And this is the hard part for small makers.
We get compared to big retailers all the time on price, but we are not always selling the same thing.
When I say essential oils, I mean pure unadulterated essential oils.
When I make a product, I know what is in it, why it is there, and how it is being used.
That costs more.
The ingredients cost more.
The testing, insurance, compliance, labelling and responsibility cost more.
I’m not sharing this to shame anyone who shops at Kmart. We all buy what we can afford.
But I do think customers deserve honesty.
Because when something is cheap, someone, somewhere, is usually absorbing that cost. Sometimes it’s the maker. Sometimes it’s the farmer. Sometimes it’s the quality. Sometimes it’s the truth on the label.
This is why I will always choose transparency over cheap.
