💜 October is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month 💜

Today, we’re sharing Chloe’s story, as told by her beautiful mum, Bethan.

Rett syndrome is a devastating neurological condition that primarily affects girls. For Chloe, it impacts her ability to walk, talk, eat, breathe, smile and even cry. She lives with seizures, chronic lung disease and thermoregulatory dysfunction. Her bedroom is essentially a hospital ward, and the condition impacts every part of her family’s lives.

But amongst the challenges, there is so much love. 💜 Chloe is surrounded by incredible nurses and support workers who bring fun, laughter and joy to her days while providing the care she needs to help minimise hospital stays. Her family is also incredibly grateful for the love and support of the people around them.

Life with Rett syndrome is hard, heartbreaking and relentless. But Chloe deserves a life filled with love, laughter, experiences and memories, and her family is determined to make sure she lives her best life every single day.

Rett syndrome may have changed their lives, but it will never take away their love, their fight or their determination to give Chloe the very best life possible.

This Rett Syndrome Awareness Month, we stand with Chloe and her family in raising awareness, sharing their story and reminding everyone of the importance of compassionate, individualised support.

💚 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY | THE ONE SMALL THING CHALLENGE

This World Mental Health Day, Purple Heather is challenging you to do ONE SMALL THING that helps someone feel heard, supported or less alone.

🌿 Check in on someone you haven’t spoken to in a while.
💚 Ask someone how they’re really going — and make time to listen.
👂 Listen without judgement or rushing to offer solutions.
🤝 Ask someone what support looks like for them, rather than assuming.
☕ Make time for a conversation, a coffee or a little connection.
🗣️ Share your story if you feel comfortable, because lived experience matters.
💜 Do something for yourself that improves your own mental health

This year’s theme is “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change” — a reminder that listening is only the beginning. Real change happens when people’s experiences help shape the support, services and decisions that affect their lives.

Let’s turn awareness into action, one conversation at a time.

💜 World Cerebral Palsy Day 💜

Cerebral palsy is one of the more common physical disabilities, but it can look very different for everyone.

For World Cerebral Palsy Day, we asked Heidi, our wonderful Support Mentor and Pathways to Employment Coordinator, to share her experience of living with CP and what she wants others to understand.

Here’s what Heidi had to say:

“I have always been incredibly fortunate to have amazing people around me who have taught me to always try my best and, most importantly, to be the best version of myself.

If it wasn’t for my family, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Their love, support and belief in me have helped shape the person I am.

I truly believe we all have the ability to be something special, regardless of our abilities or disabilities. Life will always present challenges, but what matters is how we choose to face them.

I wouldn’t be me without my CP. A negative society will affect me more than my CP ever will.”

Thank you, Heidi, for sharing your experience and helping create greater understanding of what living with cerebral palsy can look like. 💜

💜 World Cerebral Palsy Day 💜

Today, we recognise and celebrate the 17 million people worldwide living with cerebral palsy.

Cerebral palsy is a lifelong neurological condition that affects movement, coordination and posture. But CP looks different for everyone, and every person’s abilities, goals and support needs are unique.

Today is about more than raising awareness. It’s about promoting inclusion, accessibility, choice and equal opportunities — and making sure people living with cerebral palsy are supported to live life on their own terms.
