If your hair feels drier, frizzier or harder to settle than it did ten years ago, the usual explanation is "it's just older hair" and left at that. The more specific reason is worth knowing: the oil gland attached to every hair follicle slows down as we age, the same way the ones in your skin do, an...

It's the question almost everyone asks at the market stall before they'll even pick up a bar: does tallow soap smell like beef? "Everyone says bar soap ruins your face. But my face is the driest part of me."

That was a customer email last week, and it's the question we get more than any other. So we've written the honest answer rather than the marketing one.

The short version: the warning about bar soap isn't wrong, it's just incomplete. Real soap is alkaline, and skin in its fifties and sixties is slower to recover from that than younger skin is. But the damage isn't from one wash. It's from washing twice a day with something that strips the surface clean and leaves nothing behind to replace what it took. That tight, papery feeling twenty minutes after you towel off is the tell.

What changes things is superfat — the fat deliberately left in the bar that the lye never converted. It won't make soap pH-friendly, and we're not going to pretend it does. What it does is make sure your face isn't bare when you walk out of the bathroom.

The new post covers what actually happens when soap meets dry skin, why 6% superfat behaves differently to a supermarket bar, and a simple night-time routine that takes about ninety seconds.

**New arrival at Just Love Tallow:
Tallow Coconut Soap for Dogs**

Why should humans get all the good stuff?

We've been making tallow soap for our own skin for a while now, and it only felt right to make something just as gentle for our four-legged family members too.

Our new Tallow Coconut Dog Soap is made the same careful way as our own bars — real grass-fed tallow, coconut oil, and nothing your dog doesn't need. No harsh chemicals, no strong perfumes, just a proper, gentle wash that leaves their coat soft and their skin happy.

If your dog's ever had itchy or dry skin after a bath, or you've just been wanting something more natural for wash day, this one's for them.

Because dogs deserve a little pampering too.
