MAMA is a private midwifery practice & hub for holistic care during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

MAMA is Victoria’s largest private midwifery practice, supporting over 2,500 births in the last 15 years. MAMA was created by two passionate midwives, Jan Ireland and Kelly Langford & is the first centre of its kind in Victoria, offering Medicare rebates for individualised midwifery care across the continuum. Last week, our midwives gathered to celebrate our dear colleague Bridget, who is going on maternity leave to welcome a new baby into the world!

We sat together and passed a length of red yarn around the circle, tying ourselves to one another, and each shared our best wishes and some words of wisdom as Bridget begins this new chapter in her life.

At 1am, she woke with strong back pain and knew her labour had begun. With a hot water bottle, a TENS machine, an exercise ball and a lot of determination, she kept going, and her daughter was born in the birth pool at home. She told us it was the best day of her life.

Every birth is different, and most don't go exactly to plan. What matters is that you feel known and supported, whatever unfolds. Baby's here. Now what? 🤍

Your care doesn’t stop at birth. The weeks after deserve the same time and kindness as pregnancy and birth, and we’ll help you understand your options so you can make the choices that feel right for you.

As a MAMA client, your postnatal care continues for 6 weeks after birth, whether you gave birth at home or in hospital. This includes four home visits with your own midwife in the first week, as many clinic or telehealth appointments with your midwife as you need, and one birth debrief session to talk through your experience.

We also offer extra support outside of your midwifery care package, including further emotional support, feeding support, and allied health & wellbeing services.

One of our clients told us she was looking for an extra support person, someone to provide continuity of care while she went through the hospital system.

This is a common reason families choose MAMA. A midwife who already knows your history and priorities can support you through early labour, advocate for you in hospital, and care for you at home in the weeks after the birth. She works alongside the hospital team, not in place of them.

At MAMA, every client has their own midwife, backed by a whole team of experienced midwives. We've been practising in Melbourne since 2011, and our backup midwives are people you've already met.
