Being cared for during labour & birth is made up of a thousand tiny moments.

Your partner holding your drink for you.
Your midwife toweling down your legs as you leave the shower or pool.
Being tucked up with warm blankets while you land back into your body.

It all adds up to making memories of feeling held and nurtured.

Long after the details of labour have faded, many families remember how they felt: safe, supported, respected, and deeply cared for.

These seemingly small acts of care are never really small. They create the foundation for a positive birth experience and remind you that you were never doing it alone. 🤍

Every day we meet families who have chosen private midwifery care for many reasons

This is a common theme for our clients across planned homebirth and hospital birth. No matter the setting, they want to ensure they have a midwife by their side who provides individualised guidance and evidence-based care so that they can make safe choices
Care that is truly shaped by you, not by potentially outdated & one-size-fits-all policies

Is this the kind of care you’re looking for? We have midwives available each week for discovery appointments to explore what private midwifery could look like for you.

We’re so happy to welcome another wonderful midwife to our team!

“Hi, my name is Chloé, I am so happy and proud to be a midwife! I grew up in France and moved to Australia in 2016. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege to work across Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania, the Northern Territory, and now Victoria! I have worked mostly in rural places and have learnt so much from families and midwives I met along the way. Although everyone tells me I sound Australian, I still feel very in touch with my French culture and traditions. Working with Aboriginal families in Central Australia has further deepened my appreciation and respect for this land I get to call home.”

Chloe will be taking clients in our Kensington clinic & you can read her full bio on the website now.

We get asked this a lot!

The families who do a birth class consistently tell us they felt more like the decision maker in their birth and less like something was happening to them that they didn’t understand. That’s true whether their birth went exactly as hoped or took a completely different direction.

The way you’re supported during this time doesn’t just affect the birth itself, it can shape your relationship with your baby, your partner, yourself. Preparing yourself and your support person to move through this experience feeling empowered & knowledgeable is huge.

So our classes aren’t designed to hand you a checklist (we don’t know what’s right for you!), but they’re designed to help you feel genuinely prepared, capable and connected as you step into birth and early parenthood; whatever shape that takes for your family.

Learn more in our small group classes in Kensington & Caulfield each month!

This is what support looks like at 4am in someone’s kitchen.

A heat pack, a deep hip squeeze, a midwife who has been with this family for months, a supportive birth partner present & a woman and baby doing the dance of labour together.

Something that filled our cup last week!

Dr Hazel Keedle came to MAMA, and over 30 midwives gathered to spend the day learning about supporting VBAC. On the same day, another group of brilliant midwives came through for practice reviews, there was so much energy & knowledge buzzing around!
We love what happens in this space when midwives come together. The conversations, the questions, the energy of people who genuinely care about getting it right for the families they serve.

Thank you to our friends at the Australian College of Midwives for organising, and to every midwife who gave their time!

The first weigh in for this gorgeous baby born at home, surrounded by soft material, lovely lighting and the voices of the people who love them the most. There is something very special about this moment when it’s not rushed & we’ll never get over the cuteness of little fresh feet sticking out of the end of our scales!

Rest and sleep are genuinely one of the best things you can do in early pregnancy, because exhaustion makes nausea significantly worse. Your body is building a whole human and the first trimester is when so much of the heavy lifting happens.

However, telling a person with a 3 year old to “just rest more” is basically a comedy bit, so the midwifery couch in between appointments it is some days! ❤️
