Glenarm.

Last Thursday we attended the “Gay Charmers” concert at the Library Glasshouse.
The concert was held as part of the Seniors month activities for October.

Stuart, Doreen, Ron & Bev entertained the audience with their repertoire of well known songs - Clementine; Pack up your Troubles; Tipperary; You are my Sunshine and Show me the way to go home - just a few of the many old time favourites.

An added bonus was the Golden Rivers Artists Group display of artwork in the Library foyer, which were admired by all.

Yesterday, 14 October 2026, we celebrated Allied Health Professions Day, an international event that recognises the invaluable contribution of allied health professionals to the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities.

The 2026 theme, “Allied health: For everyone, everywhere,” highlights the breadth, diversity, and impact of allied health professionals across healthcare and community settings.

At Kerang District Health, our allied health team plays a vital role in supporting people across the lifespan to achieve their health goals, maintain independence, improve quality of life, and access the care they need close to home. Through the expertise of our physiotherapists, exercise physiologist, medical imaging technologists (MITs), sonographer, and other allied health professionals, our team supports consumers across the hospital, community health and aged care settings, ensuring they receive high-quality, person-centred care wherever they are.

Our allied health professionals work collaboratively with consumers, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams to promote wellbeing, support recovery, maximise independence, and enhance quality of life. Their commitment and expertise make a significant difference to the health outcomes of individuals and the wellbeing of our community.

Today, we acknowledge and thank our allied health team for their dedication, compassion, and professionalism. Your contribution is valued and appreciated, and we thank you for the positive impact you make every day across Kerang District Health and the communities we serve.

What is thunderstorm asthma?

Thunderstorm asthma is thought to be triggered by a unique combination of high amounts of grass pollen in the air and a certain type of thunderstorm. For people who have asthma or hay fever this can trigger severe asthma symptoms.

Grass pollen grains get swept up in the wind and carried for long distances; some can burst open and release tiny particles that are concentrated in the wind gusts that come just before a thunderstorm.

These particles are small enough to be breathed deep into the lungs and can rapidly trigger asthma symptoms, making it difficult to breathe.

If you have current, past or undiagnosed asthma or seasonal hay fever it’s important you know about thunderstorm asthma and how you can protect yourself and your loved ones.

Glenarm.

Today we attended the 140th Annual Kerang Show where the first stop was the ever popular Animal Nursery.
The various animals were of great interest, in particular the coloured silky chickens!
Some alighted from the bus, others were happy to remain on the bus & some cute animals were brought on!
Dot was particularly fond of the red silky chicken.
Heather & Dawn admired the tiny ducklings & chics.
The Pygmy goats, miniature ponies, alpaca, buffalo calves, cocker-spaniel puppies & peacocks were just some of the animals admired & petted.

We ate lunch at the local Girl Guides dining room & thoroughly enjoyed our choices.

Afterwards, everyone perused the pavilions & exhibits - floral, craft, baking, photography, preserves and much more. We were impressed with the quality of the entries.

The dog show & horse show were also in progress.

💬 It’s time to talk about Dementia

Dementia affects almost half a million Australians, with more than 1.7 million people involved in providing their care. Behind these numbers are individuals, families, carers and communities who deserve understanding, compassion and support.

Talking openly about dementia matters. By starting conversations, we can help reduce stigma, build understanding and connect people with the support they need.

Health services an important role to play by supporting people living with dementia, their families and carers, and delivering high-quality, dementia-informed care.

As part of Victoria’s contribution to the National Dementia Action Plan 2024-2034, the Department has partnered with Dementia Australia to increase dementia awareness, strengthen our health workforce, and provide information and support to people living with dementia, their families and carers.

This Dementia Week, let’s start the conversation.

Let’s listen. Let’s learn. Let’s understand. Let’s connect.
