🔥 COMMUNITY FIRE INFORMATION – Cherbourg - Notice Issued 11am - 3rd October 2026
A fire is currently burning through forestry land behind the Cherbourg Cemetery.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services are in attendance and have brought the fire under control. We have been advised the area may continue to burn and produce smoke for the next couple of days while the fire works its way through remaining fuel.
At this stage, community members are asked to stay away from the fire area and allow emergency crews to continue their work safely.

There may be periods of increased smoke around Cherbourg, particularly as wind conditions change.
Please take extra care if you or someone in your household has asthma, respiratory problems or other breathing difficulties. Keep windows and doors closed where practical, limit time outdoors if smoke becomes heavy, and follow your usual health advice.

We also ask everyone to please check in on our Elders, young children and anyone who may be more affected by smoke.
Please do not enter the forestry or cemetery areas near the fire, and keep children well away.

Council will continue to share further information if conditions change or new advice is received.

Thank you to the QFES crews and everyone assisting with keeping our community safe.

Getting a good nights sleep is very important for everyone... please, be thoughtful and considerate, think about your neighbours and also protecting your own binungs.... do you really need to have the music up so loud??

🔊 BE A GOOD NEIGHBOUR – PLEASE KEEP THE NOISE DOWN
Council has been receiving an increasing number of complaints from residents about loud music and noisy parties, particularly when they continue late into the night.

We all like to enjoy ourselves, but please remember there are families, Elders, young children, shift workers and other community members living nearby who may be trying to sleep, rest or simply enjoy some peace in their own homes.

If you are having friends or family over:
- Keep music at a reasonable level
- Turn the volume down as the night gets later
- Be mindful of shouting, vehicles and other noise outside
- Let your neighbours know beforehand if you are planning a gathering
- Please respect requests to quieten things down

A good night for one household shouldn’t mean a sleepless night for everyone around them.

A little consideration goes a long way.

Let’s look after each other and be good neighbours.

R U OK? Community March 💛🖤

CRAICCHS was proud to walk alongside community at the Cherbourg R U OK? Day Community March on Thursday 17 September 2026.

Starting at Cherbourg State School, community members came together for the walk before gathering at Cherbourg ANZAC Memorial Park for a sausage sizzle.

It was great to see so many people come together to support an important message; checking in with those around us and starting conversations about mental health and wellbeing.

Remember, you don’t have to wait for R U OK? Day to ask the question. A simple yarn and taking the time to listen can make a difference 💛🖤

Ask R U OK? Any Day.

🏀 BASKETBALL LEGEND ANDRE MOORE IS COMING TO CHERBOURG!
We are getting a special visit from former NBA and NBL professional basketballer Andre Moore, who will be spending time delivering a FREE basketball session at the Cherbourg Sports Complex.

Andre knows the game at the highest level.
The 6’9” power forward was selected by the Denver Nuggets with pick 31 in the 1987 NBA Draft and went on to play in the NBA with Denver and the Milwaukee Bucks. He later built a strong career here in Australia, playing in the NBL for the Brisbane Bullets, Hobart Devils and Cairns Taipans.

With Brisbane, Andre was selected to the 1990 All-NBL Team, played in the 1990 NBL Grand Final series and became one of the league’s standout players of that era. Since finishing his professional career, he has continued sharing his knowledge of basketball through coaching, skills development and community programs for players of all ages.

Now our young people have the chance to learn from him right here in Cherbourg.

📍 Cherbourg Sports Complex
🗓️ This Friday 2nd October
⏰ 10am – 1pm

The session will include:
- Professional basketball skills and conditioning
- 3-on-3 basketball competition
- Shooting competition

Whether you already play basketball or simply want to come along, have a go and learn something from someone who has played the game professionally at the highest level — you’re welcome.

This is a great opportunity for our young people to get active, build skills and hear from someone whose basketball journey took him from Chicago to the NBA and then into a long career in Australian basketball.

🏀 Come down, bring your mates and have a run with Andre Moore.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month đź’™

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month; a good reminder for our men to have a yarn about prostate health.

Prostate cancer can develop without noticeable symptoms in its early stages, which is why regular health checks and talking about any changes or concerns are important.

Keeping your 715 Health Check up to date is a great way to stay on top of your health and identify concerns early. If you notice changes such as difficulty urinating, needing to urinate more often, blood in your urine or ongoing pain, have a yarn with your doctor, nurse or health worker.

Don’t wait until something doesn’t feel right. Keep your health checks up to date and ask questions about your prostate health.
