Was fortunate enough to spend the day at Defensa y Justicia in Florencio Varela. Amazing facility with some brilliant people! Big thanks to all the strength and conditioning staff for being so welcoming but to Federico Garcia PF in particular for allowing me access to absolutely everything and being so generous with your time. I really appreciated it. I hope I can return the favour when you make it to Sydney!

Some random Friday afternoon thoughts..

The word ‘technical’ in my opinion is one of the most vague and overused words when it comes to training and sport

It’s easy to get lost in the idea of different movement modalities and concepts but in reality whether it be strength training, yoga, pilates, dance etc all are simply different forms of human movement.

Most of us could improve our training and training outcomes not with better programs and exercise selection but simply with a little greater focus and intent

Strength, speed, power etc are great but long term in my opinion joint health is always the priority. From a training perspective movement quality is often a great determinant

In the world of professional and semi-professional football I always think that’s it’s dangerous to continually expose our athletes to high-speed running without truly understanding exactly how they move and generate such forces.

As an example poor front side mechanics such as over striding is likely to lead to some form of hamstring injury.

On the other hand poor back side mechanics such as under recovering is likely to create issues such as osteitis p***s - a very common issue among footballers.

High-speed running is extremely important but I think that delving deeper and gaining a greater awareness of how the players we work with carry out such a task is likely to lead to greater athletic outcomes.
