🖤💛❤️ Acknowledging National Sorry Day

Today, May 26, Bamford Community Care pauses to acknowledge National Sorry Day.
This is a deeply significant day of remembrance, reflection, and healing. We honour the Stolen Generations—the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families, communities, and country—and recognize the enduring pain, trauma, and resilience of Survivors and their descendants.
At Bamford Community Care, we believe that true care starts with understanding and respect. Acknowledging the truths of our past is vital to building a more inclusive, compassionate, and reconciled future for everyone in our community.

In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge the past, support healing in the present, and commit to a better future together.

We encourage everyone to take a moment today to reflect, listen, and learn.

🤝 Support and Resources
If this day raises difficult feelings, please know that support is available:
13YARN (13 92 76) – 24/7 crisis support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Thanks to Queenslanders with Disability Network for the great information on the announcement from Minister Butler.

The Hon. Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Ageing, and the Minister for Disability and the National Disability Insurance Scheme has addressed the National Press Club of Australia today.

Minister Butler made a range of announcements about the NDIS today during his speech and here are some of the main points:

- The Government is looking to make savings on the NDIS.

- The implementation of the new NDIS Planning Framework has been pushed back from July 2026 until April 2027.

- There will be a reduction in Social and Community Supports in participant plans from an average of $31,000 per year to $26,000 per year (over the next two years).

- A $200M fund is going to be established called the Inclusive Communities Fund – to rebuild capability among community organisations so people have new options to genuinely participate in their local community.

- The total number of people on the scheme will be reduced from 760,000 to 600,000 by the end of the decade. This will include changes to eligibility and access will be based upon person’s functional capacity, not diagnosis

- Expanding mandatory provider registration to include personal care supports, daily living supports and supports delivered in closed settings.

- Introduction of a Technical Advisory Group made up of the disability community and state Governments that will assess where changes can be made.

There were many announcements made today and QDN will continue to keep you updated about any changes to the NDIS, and the impacts of these changes and other issues that are important to Queenslanders with disability.

Are you a supported independent living (SIL) provider? Or are you an NDIS participant receiving these supports?

Did you know that from 1 July this year, SIL Providers will need to be registered to deliver these supports in the NDIS?

Mandatory registration will help to improve the quality and safety of SIL supports, and lift outcomes for people who rely on these services.

To find out what this change means for you and the steps you may need to take, check out our website and Frequently Asked Questions: https://bit.ly/mandatory-registration
