It's time to give something back!👊
This year my wonderful team informed me about this great event to raise funds for cancer survivors and research. We have created a team that will collectively be walking for 24 hours straight! At any given moment, atleast one person has to be walking, the same way at any one moment, somebodies life is turned upside down with a diagnosis of Cancer 😔
I personally have loved family members who have passed away from cancer and survived cancer, I have clients turned friends who have been battling cancer so bravely that it breaks my heart and my teams hearts. In reality, we are weak and they are strong, so this is the least we can do to show support.

Amjad Saleh is taking strides towards a cancer free future. Donate to support their efforts at Sutherland Shire 2024 Relay For Life.

I will be having one of our loved clients shaving my head in a show of support, if you could please donate whatever you can for this great cause or atleast share around with you friends, that would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey All😁
Chronic Care Allied Health is looking for their first Occupational Therapist to join our team of Exercise Physiologists! We specialise in neurological rehabilitation and complex disability, but also work with multiple aged care providers other insurance schemes. This is a great opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with a vision to create a leadership role and put in place a culture that will pave the way for future Occupational Therapists that join our team. We are looking for someone with at least 1-2 years experience, as you will be collaborating and with our exercise physiologists on what you see as the best way to complete your role and provide exceptional care to our community of clients.

We are growing something special and the team culture is fun, supportive and collaborative. We want to the best in the rehabilitation sector, which is why we are expanding (within the next couple of months) our brand new clinic to include an upper limb rehab section with robotic and gaming equipment to improve client outcomes. The new area will also have ADL retraining, such as a kitchen area that will be set up with assistive technology and other tools that you can use to help clients practice to be able to live at home independently. We want to expand into a multidisciplinary team, inclusive of Speech Pathologists, Physiotherapists, Dietitians and Psychologists.

If you are fun, respectful, genuinely love making meaningful connecting with your clients and have a passion to keep learning; please reach out because we want you.

Chronic Care Allied Health aims to lead the way in rehabilitation for Neurological and complex disability. Focusing heavily on education, innovation and genuine client connections, this sets us apart from the rest. Our brand new clinic based in Kogarah has been purpose built with specialised and sta...

Hey Everyone,
Thanks to all our clients, refers and friends, we continue to grow and are looking to hire another Full-Time Exercise Physiologist. We are growing something special and the team culture is fun, supportive and collaborative. No one is better than the other and we all learn from each other. We specialise in neurological rehab and complex disability but the case load is mixed and includes workers compensation, cardiac, cancer, musculoskeletal and many other chronic conditions. We want to the best in the rehabilitation sector, which is why we are expanding (within the next couple of months) our brand new clinic to include an upper limb rehab section with robotic and gaming equipment to improve client outcomes. We are also aiming to expand into a multidisciplinary team, currently looking for an Occupational Therapist.

If you are fun, respectful, genuinely love making meaningful connecting with your clients and have a passion to keep learning; please reach out because we want you.

Peter's Story 💪

Peter was diagnosed with Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody Disease (MOGAD) in 2021 following hospitalisation for a virus. MOGAD is an inflammatory disorder of the central nervous system characterised by attacks of immune-mediated demyelination predominantly targeting the optic nerves, brain, and spinal cord. Secondary to his MOGAD diagnosis, Peter was diagnosed with transverse myelitis. Transverse Myelitis is a disorder characterised by inflammation of the spinal cord leading to symptoms of neurological dysfunction including sensory and motor disruptions. Peter was bed bound for around 6 weeks and as a result of his neurological disorder had the mammoth task of relearning how to sit, stand and walk again over the following months.

Peter’s goals centre around improving his functional capacity so he is able to engage in the everyday activities that he loves including cooking and eating great food, walking, golfing and spending time with family and friends.

In sessions, Peter has been focussing on gait retraining, improving his walking capacity, trunk stability and navigating obstacles, steps and stairs. Recently, Peter has been smashing his goals completing a 2.45km walk along the foreshore and heading out to the driving range for the first time since his hospitalisation.

Check out that technique!

This is only the beginning Peter, keep up the amazing work! Watch this space.

Teamwork make the dream work!!!
We had the pleasure of Alvin and Ivana showing us the "Lifelines Neuro" ambulatory EEG recorder for our weekly in-service.
We are always looking for ways to either find or show specific exercise prescriptions impacting the neurophysiology of diseases.

EEG measures the electrical activity of a group of neurons on the most superficial aspect of the brain (cerebral cortex). We had our research hats on and were thinking if there is a way to measure speed of electrical activity in specific cortical areas pre and post treatment, and if this could be an indirect measure of myelin repair in demyelinating diseases. We also measured Amjad's brain activity during overground walking, treadmill walking and on our ICARE robotic gait retrainer to see if there was difference in EEG recordings with each different modality.
In the process, we found that Amjad did not actually have much going on up there anyway🥴

Alvin from Aerobe has opened our eyes to so much mouth watering tools we aim to use for research as well lots of assistive technology at the forefront of neuro rehabilitation. Highly recommend you check out his range and services.

Thank you Eva for being kind enough to give our practice a plug and interview me😁
Just a few corrections that I probably didn't explain properly and are in the article;
- Chronic Care has been operating since 2014, but our brand new clinic has been operating since December.
- We are aiming to treat and improve central nervous system outcomes through exercise, not muscle strength. Although, improved muscle strength is a welcomed benefit that comes with it
- Exercise has been shown to reduce pro inflammatory markers and increase anti inflammatory markers which can be beneficial in MS as it is an autoimmune inflammatory disease.
- Flipping a coin or bouncing a ball, is not going to improve muscle function and walking capacity. I was saying that we have clients with a range of capacities, some may not even be able to get out of bed so we work on bed mobility and rolling, or some might have reduced hand function so we might do exercises such as flipping coins and bouncing balls.
- exercise does improve fatigue in MS, but it's not just as simple as muscles getting fitter. It more so, but not limited to, improving the efficiency of the nervous system being able to stimulate muscles. Hence improving central fatigue.
- Serotonin is an important neurotransmitter and part of the potential reason for improved mental health outcomes with exercise, among many reasons.

Hope that clears some things up! Overall a great article and very much appreciated☺️

Expanding the body's potential.
