Before her diagnosis, Helen's life was full. Between work, family and the routines of everyday life, cancer was the furthest thing from her mind.

When she woke one night with abdominal discomfort, she expected to find a simple explanation and return to her normal routine. Instead, a visit to the emergency department led to a diagnosis of Stage 4 bowel cancer.

In part one of her story, Helen reflects on receiving that diagnosis, the uncertainty that followed and the impact it had on her priorities and plans for the future.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing more of Helen's story across our social media channels. If you'd like to watch her full story now, you can do so by visiting the Lift Cancer Care Services YouTube channel.

We are incredibly grateful to patients like Helen who generously share their experiences. By telling their stories, they help others navigate a cancer diagnosis with greater knowledge, understanding and confidence, while bringing valuable perspective to a time that can often feel overwhelming and uncertain.

Today, Lift Cancer Care Services and our incredible patient Tash made national headlines, and we could not be prouder.

Tash’s story is a powerful reminder of what we see every day: Exercise Medicine can change the cancer experience. It can help people feel stronger, more capable, more in control, and better supported through treatment and recovery.

We are so happy that the power of Exercise Medicine is beginning to be widely understood.

Now comes the next challenge: fixing access.

Every person diagnosed with cancer deserves safe, specialised, medically prescribed exercise as part of their care, not as a “nice to have”, not only if they know where to look, and not only if they can afford it.

Exercise Medicine belongs alongside surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and other frontline cancer treatments. The evidence is clear. The impact is real. And patients like Tash are showing us exactly why this matters.

Thank you, Tash, for sharing your story so generously. Your strength will help more people understand what is possible.

As we head into flu season, patient safety remains our highest priority at Lift.

For people living with cancer, avoiding illness and infection can be especially important. That is why we maintain rigorous hygiene protocols, strict infection control procedures and up-to-date staff vaccinations across our services.

As a certified day hospital, we meet rigorous clinical, safety and hygiene standards to ensure every patient feels confident, supported and cared for throughout their Exercise Medicine treatment.

From our clinical cleaning processes to the measures in place throughout our Exercise Medicine Clinic, every aspect of the Lift environment is designed to help patients focus on what matters most, their treatment and wellbeing.

The conversation around Exercise Medicine in cancer care is growing, and on Sunday it reached a national audience when Lift CEO and Founder Lauren Whiting and Lift patient Wayne were featured on 10 News.

The segment highlighted Wayne’s experience with Exercise Medicine and the Lift Model of Care, helping shine a light on a widely evidenced area of cancer care.

We are incredibly grateful to Wayne for sharing his experience so openly. His willingness to tell his story helps others understand that Exercise Medicine is a treatment in cancer care, helping to improve treatment tolerance, reduce cancer-related fatigue, and maintain strength, function and quality of life throughout the cancer experience.

A sincere thank you to Jodie Oddy, Channel 10 and the entire crew for the professionalism, care and respect shown to our patients and team throughout filming.

As awareness continues to grow, so too does the opportunity to ensure more people living with cancer can access the support they need and deserve.

If you missed the story on Sunday, here is another opportunity to watch the segment and learn more about the role Exercise Medicine can play in cancer care.

Because every patient deserves access to care that helps them achieve the best possible outcomes throughout and beyond treatment.

Following Lift CEO and Founder Lauren Whiting’s attendance at the ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago, one thing became increasingly clear.

The role of exercise in cancer care is now widely evidenced, and the way Lift has integrated Prescribed Exercise Medicine into routine cancer care is attracting attention from leaders in oncology, survivorship and supportive care from around the world.

As we continue to welcome new patients, clinicians and healthcare professionals into our community, we thought it was a good opportunity to reintroduce the Lift Model of Care.

At Lift, Prescribed Exercise Medicine sits at the centre of an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to cancer care. Delivered alongside chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery and other cancer treatments, it is prescribed, individualised and medically managed as part of routine care.

Because every person diagnosed with cancer deserves access to care that supports the whole person, not just the disease.

What happens at your first appointment at Lift?

If you’ve been referred for Exercise Medicine, your journey begins with a Multi-Disciplinary Initial Assessment. This is a longer appointment designed to allow us to understand you, your health and your needs.

You’ll spend time with one of our Medical Practitioners and an Exercise Medicine Clinician, who will assess your medical and physical status and screen for any additional services that may support you.

From there, recommendations are made based on how you’re presenting, but you remain in control of what you choose to book and when.

Because no two people are the same, this assessment is an important first step in ensuring Exercise Medicine is prescribed, safe and tailored to you.

Susie brings both lived experience and a professional mindset to her role on the Consumer Advisory Committee.

“I think I was asked to join because I can’t turn off my sales and marketing brain. I’m an ideas person.”

Now, she’s focused on helping more people discover what Lift offers, particularly through the medical community and for those newly diagnosed.

“There’s not a lot you can control through cancer treatment, but you can control how much you exercise. Having the right guidance makes all the difference.”

For Susie, the power of Lift sits in that combination of Prescribed Exercise Medicine, expert support and a community that helps people stay motivated and connected when it matters most.

She’s passionate about making sure more people have access to that support from the very beginning of their journey.

Lift CEO and Founder is in Chicago this week for the Annual Meeting, where she is presenting Lift’s work on the implementation of Exercise Medicine as a standard part of cancer care.

While in Chicago, Lauren has connected with oncology experts from around the world, with a clear and shared belief: Exercise Medicine should be embedded into cancer care.

The challenge now is not whether it belongs, but how we make it accessible, sustainable, and funded for every person who needs it.

For Lift to be part of this global conversation is a monumental achievement, and a powerful reflection of the vision, dedication, and impact behind the model of care Lauren and the team have built.
