This is a LONG post, so please stick with me…

Last night my fiancé and I headed into the MCG to watch our beloved Blues take on the Geelong Cats in the Carlton Respects Round 12 match & what a brilliant match it was!

To start there was a touching tribute where the whole stadium stood for a minute of silence to honour the life & contributions to both AFL and the world of Motor Neurone Disease Research (MND) by the late Neale Daniher and the sea of Big Freeze Beanies, may he rest in peace.

www.fightmnd.org

Secondly, the Carlton Respects round shines a light on violence against women & raises awareness whilst taking a stand to never commit this act OR stand by and watch it happen. Change starts with the people and according to the research these are the facts:

1. Violence against women is preventable.

2. Most Australians know gender inequality and violence against women are significant issues.

3. Gender equality education helps build awareness, attitudes and behaviours that lead to a more respectful future.

4. Breaking down unhelpful stereotypes and providing space for everyone to be themselves means everyone can thrive.

https://carltonrespects.raiselysite.com/

Research from Our Watch identified that sport has the capacity to influence, inform and shape attitudes about important issues, such as gender equality.

At SarahCare, we believe in raising awareness and supporting important causes where every additional person who takes a stand brings us closer to a world where violence no longer exists and equality is the norm.

If you've followed us before now, you'll know we love getting involved in fund-raising that supports a variety of important causes and so to put our money where our mouth is we are donating $250 to the Carlton Respects campaign AND another $250 to Fight MND.

As Nurses and Carers we have cared for a number of individuals experiencing violence against women as well as several individuals and families living through the journey that is Motor Neurone Disease. It is a hard road for all involved and any difference we can make is of value.

If you or someone you know is facing a diagnosis of MND or needs any other support to help with overcoming health challenges or even just needs an extra helping hand to stay in their own home, reach out. Help is just a call or message away.

This week we have been busy!!

SarahCare - Community Nursing Done Differently welcomes a new carer, Karen, to the team. She has already shown she has a great bedside manner & is settling in well.

We also did some great work with clients this week & got stuck into cooking. A great activity for encouraging our older clients to maintain dexterity and to allow the space for them to get involved in a safe but familiar way. The recipe was selected by the patient & with a little guidance & supervision she made a spectacular Ham, Camembert & Potato Pie 😋🤤🥰

ANZAC Day 2026: At SarahCare - Community Nursing Done Differently we actively sponsor & support Returned Servicemen & Women. We recognise the immense value of their sacrifices & the scars that remain once the external wounds have long healed. It is both an honour & a privilege to provide nursing care to those who have served and gifted us this wonderful life...

Today is a reminder not just of what happened in years past to those who served but also of what they sacrificed, the fears they had to face, the loss they endured all so that this country would still be ours to call home today - 111 years later ❤️ It's also not purely to remember the fallen from WWI but also to recognise & show appreciation & gratitude to all servicemen, service women & service animals ever since ❤️ thank you...

Today, my fiancé & I attended the beautiful dawn service at Kyneton which was followed by an incredible gunfire breakfast all served with smiles at the Kyneton RSL. We then headed to the 0845hrs service at Castlemaine. People gathered, solemn words were spoken & gratitude hung in the air... Both were beautiful services, both with their own personal touch.

We are so privileged to live a life of opportunity & freedoms that without our ancestors sacrifices we would never have been blessed to experience ❤️

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them...

Another day, another great cause 🥰 As a health professional and a parent of a child with additional health care needs, The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne has been a steady constant since my son was born in 2011 & had his first admission at just 6 weeks of age. This is why donations from anyone who can spare a dollar are so important ❤️
