I heard the discussion on Carrie and Tommy talking about the debate whether eight is too young to learn about periods, and even without a voice(because I’m sick), I couldn’t stay quiet on this one.
Because as a woman, a menstrual cycle coach, and a mother, I believe I have a responsibility to make sure our girls get the information they deserve.

And it’s happening as young as eight.
Even if you got your first period as a teenager, with a “normal” amount of warning, it can still be a traumatic experience if you weren’t truly prepared. So imagine being eight, nine or even ten.

This has never been a sexual experience. It is a sacred one.

So if you’re a mother of a daughter around this age and you haven’t had the conversation yet, please have it. And if you don’t know where to start, please reach out. Message me. I mean that.

In the meantime, I want you to sit with this:
Think back to when you got your first period. How did you feel?
What’s your relationship with your cycle right now and did that first experience set the tone for it?

Balance isn’t the middle point. It’s the movement. 🌱 Some days it’s all her. Some days it has to be you. You need permission to tip the scale toward yourself sometimes. That’s not selfish. That’s sustainable.

If everything feels like too much lately, that’s not weakness. That’s your nervous system asking for boundaries.

I’ve been feeling it too. Absolutely wrecked. Running on empty. And it doesn’t take much anymore, one small thing and I’m right at the edge, wanting to cry, wanting to just curl up in bed and disappear for a while.

But sleep isn’t always a getaway. Sometimes it’s five minutes of stillness you actually protect.
That’s the work right now, small, intentional moments of calm. Because a few minutes every single day is what stops you from needing a whole week to recover in the first place.

I put together a short meditation for mums who just don’t have time, because I know “just relax” isn’t realistic when you’re touched out and stretched thin. Comment QUIET and I’ll send it to you 👇

You know postpartum depression. You know the baby blues.

But nobody hands you a pamphlet on matrescence — the actual psychological and identity shift that happens when you become a mother.
It’s an immediate shift, you might notice it immediately, it might take some time to become visible to you while you are keeping this baby alive.

It’s not a diagnosis. It’s not something wrong with you. It’s a developmental stage — same as adolescence — and it’s why you feel like a stranger in your own life right now.

The grief for who you were. The rage that comes from nowhere. The “who even am I” moments in the mirror.

There’s a name for it. And once you have the name, you stop feeling crazy — you start feeling seen.

After each baby, this transition starts again.

If this is you right now: you’re not broken. You’re becoming this new version of you. Go easy on yourself, and meet you again - it takes time.

Send this to a mum in your life who needs the word, not just the sympathy.
