I have worked as a Registered Nurse in the Launceston General Hospital for the best part of the last 13 years and over the last 9 years specialised as a Diabetes Nurse Educator in the John Morris Diabetes Centre located at the NICS, where I still practice. I am passionate about improving the quality of life for anyone with diabetes. I will disclose that my journey started as a very personal one, w

ith my youngest son diagnosed when he was four. Since then my interest in diabetes management has grown from a very private concern to a larger mission. I believe in the collaborative journey, helping people integrate diabetes management into their lives in a healthy and positive way. My interests and specialisation in private practice is in diabetes technologies. I am keen to share my knowledge and experience in the newest management techniques available and how to use them well.

Well, this was a first. šŸ˜‚

I received a call from an NDIS provider looking for a clinician to assess a participant, develop an individualised diabetes management plan and provide training for their disability support workers.

I asked the usual question: ā€œHow did you find me?ā€

The answer?

ā€œChatGPT recommended you.ā€ 😳

Apparently ChatGPT had searched the available services in Launceston and ranked MyDiabetes as the best match, based on my combined practice as a Credentialled Diabetes Educator and Nurse Practitioner, with diabetes technology and insulin management expertise.

And then they actually called me.

There is something quite surreal about seeing the work I’ve spent years building described back to me by an AI — and even more surreal when that recommendation turns into a real referral.

The internet is a strange place sometimes. šŸ˜‚
