Nechamah Reflection No. 3 | Spikenard 🌿
Spikenard is a precious and deeply fragrant oil with a beautiful history woven throughout Scripture. It was costly, treasured and used as an expression of honour, love and devotion.
In this reflection, we explore the qualities of Spikenard, its significance throughout the Bible, and the story of Mary pouring out her precious perfume at the feet of Yeshua — an intimate picture of wholehearted devotion and surrender.
We’ll also explore the beautiful Hebrew word Teshuvah — תְּשׁוּבָה, meaning return. More than simply repentance, Teshuvah is the invitation to turn our hearts back towards God — to acknowledge where we have strayed, ask for forgiveness, surrender what we have been holding onto and return to His ways.
As we reflect on Psalm 51:10–12, may we echo David’s prayer for a clean heart, a renewed spirit and a willing heart. And may the prayer accompanying this reflection remind us that repentance isn't about shame, but about coming home to the heart of a loving God.
Spikenard reminds us: what we surrender to God can become an offering of love. 🤍

Where is He calling me to return?
