My Home, My Life — Blackall & Longreach this September

What does a good life at home look like for you or someone you support?

Our My Home, My Life sessions are about exploring personalised living options, building a vision for the future, and thinking about how people with disability can have greater choice, independence and belonging in their own home.

REMINDER — Child Safeguarding Workshop this Saturday in Longreach

There’s still time to register for our FREE Child Safeguarding Workshop this Saturday.

If you work or volunteer with children through a community group, sporting club, organisation, program or service, this practical session will help you better understand Queensland’s Child Safe Standards and what they mean in everyday practice.

🏡 Small Changes, Big Difference

For people with disability, even small home modifications can make a big difference to safety, independence and everyday living.

Queenslanders With Disability Network (QDN) has developed the Small Changes, Big Difference campaign to help people with disability understand how home modifications can be requested and installed in private rental properties, while also providing practical information for property owners and the real estate industry.

Queensland Disability Conference 2026 – ‘Access All Areas: The Road Ahead’

Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN), in partnership with the Department
of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety, is hosting the Queensland
Disability Conference 2026, Brisbane.

Event highlights will include discussions on:

▶️ Brisbane 2032 Games - Social and economic impact
▶️ Accessible and inclusive transport

📣 Important NDIS update

The NDIA has released a special update following the passage of new NDIS laws through Parliament.

For now, participants can continue using their current plans and supports as usual. Changes will be introduced gradually, with some starting in the coming weeks and others from October 2026 onwards.

Some of the key changes outlined by the NDIA include:

👉changes to who can request a plan reassessment
👉new record-keeping requirements
👉funding changes for some supports from October 2026
👉a 90-day timeframe for claims from December 2026
👉changes to plan renewals and reasonable and necessary supports from February 2027
👉a new planning approach beginning from April 2027
👉changes to NDIS access processes beginning from January 2028

There is a lot of information still to come, and further detail will be released as each change is introduced.

At Outback Independent Living, we know changes like these can raise questions and uncertainty. We’ll continue sharing updates as more information becomes available.

It is also incredibly important that the experiences of people living in rural and remote communities are represented as the NDIS develops and tests new approaches.
