"There are those who pass through life looking at the Arabian horse and seeing only the smoke of an invented fire. Just the other day, I came across stray words floating in the dust of the digital wind, written by someone who knows nothing of the animal beyond its caricature. They asked if the Arabian was a horse for just anyone, as if the horse could fit into a narrow frame, as if the soul of the desert could be reduced to a sudden start.

One must un-invent this haste. Much of what they call wildness was not born in the womb of the earth, but in the whim of men who sought, in the halter rings, to manufacture an artificial jumpiness. They chose the spark and forgot that fire also warms the floor of the home. But the Arabian was not made for the vanity of the show ring. It was gestated in the silence of war and the quiet affection of the Bedouin tent. A warhorse cannot possess a fleeing heart. It required cold courage, a gentleness that speaks to fear, and a silent understanding with the one who guides its reins. Had it been made solely of panic, history itself would have disowned it.

What many call unpredictable temper is merely the animal’s surplus of lucidity. In hands that do not listen, this liveliness turns into discord. But when a human learns to quiet their own force, the horse offers not blind obedience, but the gift of true partnership.

I saw this barefoot wisdom myself in my own horse. The first time our path met a fallen log, he had never learned the art of jumping. There was no need for spurs, a heavy hand, or raised voices. The horse stopped before the log. He sniffed the wood as one who listens to an ancient secret, took five deliberate steps backward—calculating the distance with the precision that belongs only to the eyes of the soul—and broke into a smooth canter, clearing the obstacle by his own sovereign will. He was not forced to jump; he chose the crossing.

This same mystery, which holds both the gallop and the decision, also knows how to cradle. I know, having seen her with my own eyes upon the very same ground, an Arabian mare who works in equine-assisted therapy. There, on the spot, before the fragile body of a child with Down syndrome, the horse unlearns the storm. The very same fine-tuned perception that makes her an elite athlete turns this mare into a four-legged guardian. She measures her stride not with her legs, but with her heart, slowing her pace to become a sanctuary.

The Arabian horse is neither a directionless flame nor a passive tool to carry human weight. It is a creature that thinks with the wind and feels with the earth. Riding it does not demand strength of arm—it demands only the delicacy of one who knows how to listen."

As I am effectively, retired, I carefully consider whether we are a good fit for anyone enquiring about spending time with us, before making a final decision whether or not to commence EAL Sessions/Horse Wisdom Program with each individual or Group.

There is also the possibility of coming to YOU, to BE with your horse/s at your location, to explore RELATIONAL EXPERIENCES.

This year, our focus is mainly to improve our fitness and increase our levels of BDNF, as we begin the next stage of our experiential learning, with Helios Harmony (in-hand classical dressage online learning with Iliane and - ).

To me, it is important, to pay homage to Habibi as I am truly grateful for her unwavering spirit and presence.

I am hoping, that, by learning and practicing the ways of the old masters with Habibi, it will, in some way, repay my debt that I owe to her, simultaneously offering her the chance of physical and mental rehabilitation.

We have also very recently connected with and looking forward to receiving in-person tuition with her beautiful Escola Horses in August 2026. This promises to be the icing on the cake as we never anticipated being in a position to be able to combine the online theory with matching inperson tuition for In-Hand Work, not far from our location.

Habibi is a black skinned Arabian mare, in her 20s.

Her story is that she was bred for eventing, she competed for around 10 years, became injured, then had foals, living in a large herd thereafter in retirement.

And then she came to be with us, on our EAL journey.

Originally from Ballan, she stayed near Woodend for a few weeks before being trucked down to Pullenboon South Equine Retirement Farm near the Great Southern Ocean, to be with us.

Only a year passed and then the return to the Macedon Ranges, this time, in close proximity to the Kerrie Valley.

We are all very settled again and enjoying our lives here, in Thoroughbred and Wine country, that is the Macedon Ranges.

Our family are so grateful and will never forget the care and compassion we received from Monty Roberts after a family tragedy.
You taught us so much, we are forever grateful to you and for inviting us to learn the language of horses, Equus.
Thank you.
