Today is R U OK? Day, a reminder that a simple conversation can make a difference.

You don’t need to be an expert to check in with someone. If you notice a friend, family member, colleague or loved one doesn’t seem themselves, take the time to ask:

💬 “Are you OK?”

Listen without judgement, encourage them to talk, and continue to check in. Sometimes knowing someone genuinely cares can mean more than we realise.

And remember – you don’t have to wait until someone is struggling to ask the question.

If you’re finding things difficult yourself, reaching out to someone you trust or speaking with your GP can be a good place to start.

☀️ Spring is here – time to think about sun safety!

As we come out of winter and start spending more time outdoors, it’s a great time to get back into good sun-safe habits and check your skin.

🧴 Remember to:
• Slip on protective clothing
• Slop on SPF50+ sunscreen
• Slap on a broad-brimmed hat
• Seek shade when possible
• Slide on sunglasses

🔎 Know your skin. Keep an eye out for new spots or changes in existing moles and freckles, including changes in size, shape or colour, or spots that itch, bleed or don’t heal.

Living in Queensland means sun protection is important all year round, not just during summer.

💙 Cervical screening saves lives.

If you’re aged 25 to 74, regular cervical screening is one of the best ways to help prevent cervical cancer.

The Cervical Screening Test checks for the human papillomavirus (HPV), the virus that causes almost all cases of cervical cancer. Detecting HPV early allows changes to be monitored or treated before cancer develops.

📅 Most people only need a Cervical Screening Test every 5 years, provided their previous results were normal.

You may be eligible for a self-collected Cervical Screening Test, making screening easier and more comfortable for many people. Speak with your GP to find out if this option is right for you.
