What a day! 🎉

We had an incredible time at the Mackay Disability Expo on Tuesday. It was fantastic connecting with so many people, sharing what we're all about, and catching up with familiar faces.

We even had a few TV stars in our midst, with Tim and RED featuring in a news story during the event! ⭐📺

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat, asked questions, shared their stories, and supported what we do. Days like these remind us why community matters so much.

We're already looking forward to the next one! 💙

We’ve been overwhelmed by the support, messages, and kindness from our community since sharing what happened. It has reminded us just how many people care about our Buddies and the safe space we worked so hard to build.

Yesterday, QPS Forensic Officers attended our space and were able to recover several good fingerprints, which has given us some hope and encouragement. We have also found a few Receipts with Time and Dates that should with luck be able to Identify at least one of the culprits.

But further inspections and cleaning also uncovered drug paraphernalia, alcohol, cigarette butts, and multiple areas where attempts appear to have been made to start fires inside our space.

That part has been confronting.

Following advice from QPS, and for the safety of our Buddies, we have had to throw away a large amount of equipment, sensory items, games, and supplies to ensure the space remains safe for the children and families who use it.

It’s heartbreaking knowing that a place built around inclusion, safety, and community was treated this way.

But through all of this, one thing has become very clear — our community is stronger than the damage left behind 💫

Thank you to everyone standing beside us right now. Your support genuinely means the world. Steve and Tim Have hit the Interview trail and We've had a lot of people reach out.

Right now though we won't be rushing into any decisions.

We love our Free Community Sessions and we do want to bring them back in some capacity, in the future. For now, our focus is on the programs we currently run and ensuring they continue uninterrupted for the Buddies and families who rely on them.

💛 Important Update – Free Saturday Sessions 💛
This is a post we never wanted to make.
Due to repeated break-ins, theft, and ongoing damage to our space, our Free Saturday Sessions will NOT continue for the foreseeable future.

These sessions were never about money, They were our way of giving back, building community, and creating a place where our buddies felt safe, included, and accepted 💫

A group of youths over 6 separate break ins, have stolen 3 Nintendo Switch consoles, damaged walls, and destroyed artwork and projects our buddies spent hours creating — with little regard for the children with disabilities who use our space.

To some people, it was “just artwork” and “just games.”
To us, it was friendship. Confidence. Connection. Team Building.

For some of our attendees, Saturday Session were the only place they truly felt included 💫

Watching something so special be repeatedly damaged has been heartbreaking.

Our other programs WILL continue, and we are doing everything we can to rebuild, find a new space, and create safer ways for our buddies and the community to stay connected.

But We ALL deserve better.

To every family that walked through that door, and played every game of Keepy Uppy, helped with every craft project, every laugh, and every friendship made in our space — thank you 💛

And to the businesses and community in our city heart — we know we can’t be the only ones experiencing this.
Something needs to change.
We are currently drafting a petition to take to our local members because community spaces, businesses and support services deserve better then to be destroyed.

QCAT applications:
We just had a call from qcat regarding a participant which we are allegedly the primary for however we have never supported that participant beyond offering support and advocacy to them.
I know they use a small network of isw that seem to work as a group (which is a bit of a red flag i think). Has anyone had experience with being listed with qcat for someone theyre not supporting?
QCAT couldnt give me any details once i advised them that we are not supporting this participant. is there any risk to my organisation that i need to prepare for if we are getting falsely listed?

Our FREE Saturday Morning Session will NOT be running this week .
(Our Saturday Night Programs will still run as per usual)

As That Place – Mackay continues to grow , we’ll also be making some changes to our Saturday sessions moving forward. These changes are designed to help us create even better experiences, more opportunities for connection, and stronger support for our Buddies and families. We know how much these sessions mean to our buddies, and we’ll be sure to share what’s ahead 🎉

Come in today for our drop in session from 10am to 1pm for a cuppa, some socialising, fun and when you go home if you need a hug we will give you one to take home in your pocket.

🎲✨ That Place – Mackay Games Night Sleepover ✨🎲

After our regular Saturday Night Session… we weren’t done 💛
We invited our Buddies and their families to stay, hang out a little longer…
and yes — we had a SLEEPOVER

From learning the games our Buddies love…
to jumping in and playing right alongside them…
this wasn’t just hanging out—
it was connection, laughter, and a whole lot of fun.

🎯 We had it ALL:
🎲 Strategy and laughs with Catan (a solid 3-hour marathon!)
🐐 Fast-paced chaos with Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza — laughs from kids AND adults
💥 Non-stop fun with Exploding Kittens
🥽 VR experiences that had everyone talking
🍩 Donut eating games (yes… it got competitive 😅)

And in between all of that?
✨ Real moments
✨ Real connections
✨ Real understanding

Because when families can see what we do, join in, and experience it for themselves…
it builds confidence not just in our Buddies—but in everyone 💫
