Lice in beef and dairy cattle are irritating for the animal and annoying to the farmer. They present significant welfare and health issues and can impact productivity through animal stress, particularly in the winter months when numbers peak. Ivomec® Pour-On for cattle containing 5 mg/mL ivermectin provides up to 56 days’ targeted and persistent control of sucking and biting lice.

Talk to your animal health advisor or animal health provider about integrating Ivomec Pour-On into your lice management programme.

See product label for full claim details and directions for use.

Lice are of widespread concern in beef and dairy cattle in all states in Australia. Infestation causes irritation to the skin, which may contribute to low weight gains or loss of condition in cattle that are stressed or running on low levels of nutrition, especially during cold winter weather. In addition, the effects of itching, licking and rubbing irritated skin are likely to have an economic impact. For example, a scruffy coat may reduce sale price, and damage to the hide can reduce its value. Another indirect cost of lice is associated with damage to fences, posts and trees due to cattle using them as rubbing stations. Always talk to your animal health provider or animal health advisor about managing lice in your herd.

Disease caused by liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica) impacts both farmers and the Australian livestock industry in millions of dollars of lost earnings.

Best practice management includes using a treatment in April - May that is effective against all three stages of liver fluke found in livestock. Triclabendazole is the only active that kills all three stages of liver fluke¹.

Avomec® PLUS Pour-on, containing both triclabendazole and abamectin, is a convenient pour-on treatment that not only controls worms and external parasites, but is effective against all three liver fluke stages.

Always consult with your animal health advisor on the best liver fluke management plan for your farm. See product label for full claim details and directions for use.

Disease caused by liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica) costs the Australian livestock industry millions of dollars per annum. In the beef cattle sector, costs are a result of production losses on farm and in feedlots, downgrading of livers at the abattoir, as well as the costs associated with control measures and treatments. The strategic autumn treatment is the most important in the annual fluke control calendar.
In this two-part series we look at how to strategically plan and treat this costly problem.

Always consult with your animal health advisor about the best liver fluke management plan for your farm.
