If someone had told me there was a way to prepare nourishing meals and care for myself after birth...
To support my recovery, regain my energy, and increase my chances of breastfeeding comfortably and for as long as I wanted...
With my first pregnancy, I probably would’ve smiled politely and thought,
“Thanks, but I’ll be fine.”
But if someone had told me this while I was pregnant with my second baby? (When I thought prenatal yoga would be enough).
I would’ve listened differently.
Because the heartbreak of feeling like I’d failed my first baby, after becoming so depleted and stressed, stayed with me for a long time.
I was surviving on whatever food was in the cupboard or fridge, while trying to recover from pregnancy, birth, and exclusively breastfeeding.
I was running on empty.
And yet I didn’t think “This isn’t normal”.
I had no guidance.
No roadmap.
No understanding of what my body truly needed to heal and thrive.
Now, years (and 4 more babies later) what I’ve gained through my own experiences, reflection, study, and passion is this:
A mother needs to be nourished with the foods that support her.
She deserves warmth.
Replenishment.
Encouragement to trust in herself..
She deserves to feel alive in her body again.
And breastfeeding should feel gentle and supported - not something she simply has to endure.
A replenished mother is everything.
And when a mother is deeply nourished, her baby has the opportunity to thrive alongside her.
I’d love to know, what’s one thing you wish you’d known before having your baby?
