Standing on one leg is a simple but powerful way to assess balance.

It challenges the ankle, knee, and hip working together for stability.

If it feels difficult, start with support nearby and build up gradually over time.

We talk a lot about the clinical side of Exercise Physiology. The strength gains. The functional outcomes. The evidence base.
But this? This is equally important.
Pat and Jono have been working together for a long time. What they've built goes way beyond a treatment plan. Watch to the end — Jono pulls off a win (and a surprise burp pre-race).
Exercise Physiology doesn't have to be serious to be effective. Sometimes the best sessions end in a muscle flex!

While your tea is brewing, try a quick balance exercise.

Calf raises help strengthen the muscles used for walking and stability.

Start with support, then gradually reduce it as your balance improves.

Bringing your feet closer together reduces your base of support and challenges your balance system.

Start with a stable surface nearby for safety if needed.

Practicing this regularly can help improve stability and reduce fall risk over time.

Standing in a staggered stance near a stable surface helps train balance and stability.

Start with light fingertip support, then challenge yourself to let go when ready.

Hold for up to 30 seconds, then switch sides for a simple daily practice.

High-knee marching helps train strength, balance, coordination, and endurance all at once.

Start at a pace that feels controlled and safe.

A few consistent minutes each day can support confidence and make movement feel easier.

Step-ups do more than strengthen your legs.

They help with balance, weight shifting, endurance, confidence, and everyday movement.

Training movements you actually use can make daily life feel easier and help keep you moving.

After a stroke, early support can make a meaningful difference.

Movement, speech, balance, and daily function often respond best when rehabilitation starts early and stays consistent.

Small improvements early can become life-changing gains later.

Loose mats, extension cords, low chairs, poor lighting, and cluttered walkways all increase fall risk.

Many of these hazards are easy to miss but simple to fix.

An OT home safety assessment can help identify risks and improve safety throughout the home.

18/06/2026

A first home physio visit is usually an assessment, not a treatment session.

The focus is on how you move, your goals, daily routine, and home environment.

This helps build a clear, personalised plan to improve safety, mobility, and independence.
