What you are feeling makes sense!

Sometimes the hardest part can be understanding and accepting what we feel.
After a traumatic experience, such as sexual assault or abuse, people may experience anger, fear, confusion, anxiety, helplessness, guilt, emotional numbness, changes in appetite, feeling withdrawn from others and difficulty sleeping.

These responses will differ from individual to individual, and can look different for everyone. What you are feeling does not mean you are “overreacting”. Your feelings are valid.

Below are some examples of common feelings individuals may experience after trauma.

International Youth Day 2026: Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.

Today we celebrate the energy, creativity, resilience, and leadership of young people who are shaping a brighter future for our communities.

This year’s theme is “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations” and it reminds us that while young people come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, they share hopes for opportunity, belonging, well-being, and a brighter future. Together we can encourage, support and empower the next generation.
