What does a Paediatric Occupational Therapists do?

Paediatric OT support children and their families with the everyday tasks and challenges that can sometimes feel a little harder for some kids than others.

Parenting can be tough and growing up can be tough too. With the right support and guidance, children can build confidence, skills and independence in their day to day lives.

OT Jess is here to help support children and families through those challenges, big or small.

We’re pleased to welcome Sharon as our newest Nurse Practitioner.

Working alongside James, Sharon helps expand our Nurse Practitioner availability to 4 days a week, offering patients greater access to on-the-day appointments and long-term healthcare support.

Sharon has a particular interest in emergency nursing, women’s health, especially supporting women through perimenopause and menopause, lifestyle health and wellbeing.

We're excited for patients to work with her as part of your Praxis Medical team.

Flu season is here and we’ve been busy helping our patients stay protected with this year’s flu vaccinations.

A reminder that children up to 11 years and adults aged 65+ can access federally funded flu vaccines at any time. For patients aged 12 to 64 years, state funded flu vaccines are only available until the end of June.

Feeling okay does not always mean your asthma is under control.

Asthma can change over time, and without testing, it is hard to know if your current treatment is still doing its job.

Spirometry helps us measure how your lungs are really functioning, giving your GP the information needed to manage your asthma properly.

It is a simple test, but an important one.

If it has been a while since your last check, now is a good time to revisit it.

You can feel completely fine… and still be at risk.

Recently, we’ve been proactively screening smokers and ex-smokers for lung cancer, and what we’ve found is confronting.

Some patients, with no symptoms and no warning signs, have already shown high-risk lung nodules.

They felt healthy. They wouldn’t have known.

That’s the reality of lung disease. It can develop silently.

The good news? When we find something early, we have options. Monitoring, intervention, and a much better chance of preventing something serious.

Nurse Practitioners are the most advanced level of nursing in Australia.

They are highly experienced clinicians who can diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, order diagnostic tests, and manage treatment independently. To become a Nurse Practitioner, nurses must have extensive clinical experience and complete a Master’s degree, before being endorsed by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Patients can also access Medicare rebates for consultations with a Nurse Practitioner.

Throughout their careers, nurses develop deep clinical knowledge and build strong relationships with patients. The Nurse Practitioner role allows these highly skilled clinicians to use their expertise more fully in patient care.

Nurse Practitioners can identify health concerns early and provide timely treatment, helping patients access the care they need without unnecessary delays.
