It's a struggle!!
You feel like rubbish.
Your concerns aren't heard.
Your symptoms are dismissed because nothing is showing up in your blood tests.

Let's change the way we think about healthcare 🙌
Let's dig deeper.
Let's look at the big picture.

The body is not a sum of it's parts.
All systems work in unison.
A multifaceted approach is where we shift the needle.

High cholesterol?
Let's look at liver function, digestive function, thyroid function, inflammation, hormone balance, blood glucose regulation.

Fatigue?
Let's look at nutrient absorption, adrenal health, intestinal integrity, nervous system response.

Food intolerances?
Let's map your microbiome, investigate enzyme release, manage anxiety, promote bile production.

Weight loss resistance?
Let's investigate thyroid health, insulin sensitivity, glucose balance, stress management, macronutrient balance.

If you're looking for a new strategy,
If you're keen to address your health with an in-depth approach,

I'd love to support you!

With access to so many gadgets and gizmos are we relying on the data and ignoring how we feel?

Don't get me wrong, a love me some good data!
Measurable metrics.

Blood testing.
Microbiome testing.
Blood pressure testing.
Waist + hip measurements.

I look for patterns, trends, and the relationship between several markers.

This is all brilliant data and useful information to determine drivers of health issues and to steer strategic therapies.

Testing is great.
Tracking is great.
As long as we treat the person and not merely the test results.

This is where qualitative data comes in.
Scale-based questions, where you give me a rating based on how you gauge your health status.
And we discuss symptom severity, and timing, and what makes things better or worse.

And I zoom out to see how it's all connected, and what's happening upstream.

This determines the treatment priorities.
The initial therapeutic focus that will have the biggest impact on your health outcomes.

But if I ask you about your sleep and you turn on your gadget to scroll through the latest results, are we missing the real data?

Are we avoiding awareness?
Are we doubting our ability to feel and be in tune with our well-being?
Are we allowing a device to dictate our status?

By being 'connected' (by bluetooth or infrared) are we becoming disconnected with our body?

I think it's worth considering.

We're up to the letter U for this month's Food As Medicine focus:
U is for Ultra Lean Beef Mince!
U thought I would be stumped huh?!

Well.... I was! But then I remembered that healthy meals can include cheaper meats, using low fat, better quality versions.

Utilising ultra lean beef mince you can up your protein without the excess fat.

Undoubtably, beef mince is almost an unspoken staple in most household freezers - great for the ultimate spaghetti bolognese (Aussie style, y'know with added veg and mince meat which to the traditionalists would likely be unusual, unfathomable inclusions!)

Don't underestimate how nutritious you can make boring ol' beef mince when you find the heart healthy ultra lean variety at your butcher or local supermarket, and upgrade it with herbs and spices rich in nutrients and flavour to form your very own uber delicious burgers and snaggers - Utterly outdoing the store bought versions with their unknown ingredients!

Unveil your creative cooking skills, mix up your favourite flavours, and use ultra lean beef mince for budget friendly, flavour-filled meals!

And for those who've had their gall-bladder removed, who experience urgent, frequent, loose, slimy, and pale or yellow bowel motions - this just might make things a little less uncomfortable.
Less fat content, means less undigested fat passing through unabsorbed.

Winners are Grinners!

And when you feel a shift in your energy levels,
when you sleep better,
when your gut feels better,
when you are no longer running to the toilet frantically,
when your intimate areas no longer itch and burn,
when your blood tests show improved health markers,
when you no longer need your reflux medication...

You'd be smiling too!!

I've seen some amazing progress in clinic recently and these kind of results speak for themselves.

Nutritional medicine works!

And it's not just about the food you eat (although, don't get me wrong, food choices, timing, and inclusions are the foundation of long term health) but using nutrients therapeutically, restoring digestive function, and acknowledging the role of your nervous system are some of the tools I employ as a Clinical Nutritionist.

I view your health picture clinically. Zooming in on the finer details of your health history, symptoms, and triggers and zooming out on the pathophysiology at play.

Thorough, holistic, client-centred health care.
Something you don't often get elsewhere.

My initial consults are 90 minutes.
You'll have breathing space.
A chance to share your journey.
A conversational and informative way to build a plan together.

If you're sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, let's chat!

Fuelling Fat Loss 🫢

Ladies, we need to be well nourished to achieve healthy sustainable fat loss, not starved!

Yes - I do recommend modifications to food types and timing, but in my experience in clinic it is often a case of suggesting you eat more food, not less.

The balance is crucial. And I can see that in some instances the pendulum has swung from one extreme to the next with all the online advice and influence available to us these days.

I wanna remain realistic - I mean look at me. No make up, hair is wild and free, life is chaos - we need to be real about what we can manage!!

No-one has it all together.
No-one is waltzing through life.

We all have struggles.

I wanna help you discover what works for you.
I wanna make this easy, enjoyable, satisfying.

I'm in it for the long haul, are you?

I have been privileged to support many beautiful Mums on their health journey 💐
I've met some amazing super-human types who prioritise every one else first, and often forget to nurture and nourish themselves (or rather run out of time and energy!)

Over the years, I've noticed a prominent theme amongst these lovely, hard-working, dedicated ladies... Nervous System Overload 🤯

As Mums, we juggle a lot!
(No matter how old they are - Mine's 20!)

Today, we acknowledge the wonderful Mum and Mum-like figures in our lives. The ones who pour out their heart and soul into their family and their loved ones.

May you find a moment to exhale.
May your fill your cup.

And may you find a way to remember you - today, and every day.

If you need support to manage your energy levels, to balance your hormones, to regulate your nervous system, to nourish your body, and to resolve your digestive issues --- Let's work together 🩷💜

I'm Lynda Reed, Clinical Nutritionist, a mum, and the founder of Nourish & Flourish Nutritional Medicine. I support folks in a gentle, kind, and nurturing manner - meeting you where you are at, offering strategies that fit your busy life, and targeting your health concerns at their cause.

Bloating? Reflux? Gut Issues?

The digestive process doesn't start the moment you put food in your mouth.

How you prepare for digestion makes a huge difference to your capacity to breakdown food.

It starts in the brain.
When see food, you switch on digestion.
When you smell food, you switch on digestion.

Digestion isn't just happening between breakfast and butt, so take a moment to observe and smell your food to signal the full cascade of digestive processes to kick into action and reduce your bloating, reduce your reflux, and reduce your gut issues.

Simple. Easy. Effective.

This month's A-Z of Food is Medicine focus is at T for Turmeric!

Teeming with minerals, this vibrant coloured tuber is a tasty addition to your daily diet to trigger anti-inflammatory, gut microbiome modulation, liver detoxification support, cholesterol reduction, and antioxidant action.

Choose powdered (ground) or use fresh and include in:
▫ Soups
▫ Curries
▫ Stirfries
▫ Casseroles
▫ Satay sauces
▫ Salad Dressings
▫ Marinades

Or try a DYI turmeric latte:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/turmeric-latte

⚠️ But be warned - white bench-tops, t'shirts, and tea towels will be a terrific shade of yellow should you trawl the powder through the kitchen!

☝️Hot tip! Eucalyptus solution does the trick 👌😉

🧐 Have you ever tried fresh turmeric?
I have! It's lovely - think about the difference of ground and fresh ginger.
See if you can find some and have a taste.

Fuelling Weight Loss

Yes, fuelling!

Ample nutritional intake is the key to fat loss.
Not drastic reduction.

Sure, if you've been going hard on the extras, some reduction is warranted. But with all the noise and fads and influencers and potions and entrepreneurs selling their wares online, I think it's reeeeaaaaallly important to remember the basics.

It's easy to over look foundational strategies.

So I've popped together a little list of reminders to get you started.
But the real progress happens when you're properly supported.

Approaching a weight management journey from a holistic and individualised perspective will see better results. Considering driving factors such as digestive function, nutritional status, hormonal balance, and nervous system response are the keys to success.

Having me in your corner (cheering you on, pom poms and all!) means you'll get the support and guidance for staying motivated, pivoting when things aren't shifting, tweaking as required, and monitoring more than just the number on the scales.

This is a team effort.

This is a journey.

I won't let you skip off into the sunset on your own.

Morning Sunlight 🌞

A weekend ritual that is imperative to health.

Daylight naturally sets your circadian rhythm, telling your cells when to make Melatonin for solid sleep, how to balance Leptin for appropriate hunger and satiety cues, when to ovulate (for menstruating gals), and contributes to mood, food cravings, and stress response.

And these are key factors for so many health conditions and concerns.

Daily early morning sunlight is just as important as eating breakfast. I ask my clients to make them a partnership made in paradise 🏝️

Have your breakfast outside 🙌
