📢 Important NDIS Reform Update: Key Dates to Know
The Australian Government has released a roadmap of significant NDIS reforms aimed at strengthening and protecting the Scheme for future generations.
🗓️ 1 July 2026
• Mandatory registration begins for Supported Independent Living (SIL) and platform providers.
• Consultation commences on several major market and pricing reforms.
🗓️ 1 October 2026
• “Thriving Kids” supports begin rolling out for children aged 8 and under with developmental delay and/or autism who have low to moderate support needs.
• Some social and community participation budgets will begin transitioning as plans are renewed or reassessed.
🗓️ 1 February 2027
• Changes to plan rollovers begin. Unspent funds will no longer automatically carry over into renewed plans.
• New “reasonable and necessary” assessment criteria commence for new participants.
🗓️ 1 April 2027
• Participants begin transitioning to the new NDIS planning framework.
🗓️ 1 July 2027
• Expanded mandatory provider registration begins for higher-risk supports, including personal care and daily living supports.
• New provider enrolment requirements commence.
🗓️ 1 January 2028
• New access and eligibility assessment process begins for new NDIS applicants.
• “Thriving Kids” becomes fully operational across Australia.
• Children with low to moderate support needs may access supports outside the NDIS through the new system.
🗓️ 1 July 2028
• New support coordination and connection arrangements begin.
🗓️ 31 December 2030
• Transition to the new NDIS planning framework is expected to be complete for all participants.
