☀️ Sunshine, Sand & Old School Games

After plenty of wet weather, the sun finally came out and we took the opportunity to head to the beach.

One of my favourite parts of support work is introducing kids to some of the simple games many of us grew up playing.

On this adventure we brought back a few classics:

🥏 Frisbee
🏃 Bull in the Ring
⭕ Noughts and Crosses
🪨 Rock throwing competitions

No fancy equipment.
No screens.
Just movement, laughter and plenty of fun.

Sometimes the best sessions aren't complicated. They're about getting outdoors, being active and creating opportunities for connection, confidence and play.

It's amazing how much engagement, communication and problem-solving can happen through simple games on a beach.

I think we all had as much fun as the kids did!

🌿 World Environment Day 🌿

Today is a great reminder of something we see every week working with autistic and neurodivergent children.

Nature offers something that many children are craving more of.

Less noise. Less pressure. Less screens.
More movement. More adventure. More opportunities to explore at their own pace.

Whether it's climbing rocks, walking a trail, fishing, spotting wildlife, splashing through a creek or simply sitting under a tree, nature creates opportunities for children to build confidence, resilience, problem-solving skills and independence.

Many autistic children connect incredibly well with the natural world. It can provide sensory experiences, challenges and moments of calm that are difficult to find elsewhere.

On World Environment Day, we encourage families to get outside, even if it's just for a short walk, a visit to a local park or some time exploring the backyard.
Sometimes the simplest adventures can have the biggest impact. 🌿💙

🦠💙 Winter is here... and if your household is anything like ours, you'll be looking for simple ways to support your family's immune system.

One product we're fully stocked up on right now is Bio-Kult 60s.

Why do we like it?

✅ Supports gut health and digestive function
✅ A healthy gut plays an important role in overall immune health
✅ Small capsules that are easy to swallow
✅ No refrigeration required
✅ Convenient for home, work, school or travel
✅ Suitable for the whole family

Many autistic children can be selective with foods, so having practical ways to support gut health can be helpful alongside a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

We always encourage families to seek personalised health advice where needed, but Bio-Kult is one of those supplements we like to keep on hand, especially during the cooler months.

We're fully stocked and ready for winter! ❄️

Since getting back from our trip to Cairns, I’ve been reminded just how important nature time really is 🌿

Not just for us as adults, but for kids too.

Recently I took a young client to Buderim Forest and it was such a good reminder of what the outdoors can do.

When we first started rock hopping across the creek, he was unsure of his footing, shaky on the rocks and needing to hold my hand for support.

But by the end of the session, everything had changed.

His movement was more confident.
He was calmer.
More regulated.
And absolutely worn out in the best possible way.

Sometimes confidence doesn’t come from sitting at a table or being told what to do.

Sometimes it comes from climbing rocks, balancing on logs, getting muddy and figuring things out in the real world.

Honestly… I need to get more kids into the forest 💙

I’m taking on the Reel Talk challenge NEXT WEEK !! 🎣💙

This one’s close to home for me. It’s about men’s mental health and having more real conversations.

Too many men are doing it tough behind the scenes. Too many feel like they’ve got to handle it on their own.

That needs to change.

My goal is to raise $500 to support the work being done in this space. I'm not there yet so I need your help guys.

If you’d like to support, the donation link is in our bio / https://reeltalk.org.au/clint-bauer

Appreciate it so much 🙏

If your looking for something to do with the kids on the Sunshine Coast, I found a pretty cool spot the other day 😊

I took a client there who’s really interested in gems and crystals, and we honestly had a great time.

The place is called Opals Down Under near Aussie World 💎

For around $12, kids get a container and little digger, then can search through and collect crystals to take home.

One thing I really liked was there’s no time limit. Kids can slow down, explore, dig, sort and just enjoy the experience without being rushed.

It ended up being a really calm, engaging activity and sparked heaps of conversation and excitement.

Definitely worth checking out if your child enjoys sensory play, treasure hunting, collecting or hands on activities.

Getting to know our team a little better 💛

One thing we’ve learnt over the years is that shared interests can be such a powerful way to build connection with autistic kids.

Sometimes it starts with something simple:
🦜 A favourite animal
🌅 A love for sunsets
🏄‍♀️ Surfing
🎨 Nature
🎮 Gaming
🎣 Fishing
🐴 Animals

Those shared interests can become the bridge that helps trust, comfort and genuine connection grow.

Here’s a little glimpse into some of Feli’s favourite things 😊

Her favourite animal is the kookaburra because of its determination, bravery and sense of humour, and her favourite time of day is sunset because it’s when she feels most alive, especially when surfing or out in nature.

When we help match families with support workers, we look beyond schedules and availability. We also think about personalities, interests and the little things that can help a child feel safe and understood 💙

If you’re looking for support for your child on the Sunshine Coast, we’d love to chat.

🤔 Wondering how my life might look today had I had a mentor and role model in my life like the kind we are to the kids we work with, regarding how many experiences I would have actually had of given a nudge and more confidence to try new things.

Just a little thought I wanted to share with you all. 💭

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mums out there 💙

Especially the mums raising autistic and neurodivergent kids.

The mums advocating, organising, comforting, encouraging, researching, supporting and showing up day after day, even when nobody sees the hard parts.
Your love, patience and strength matter more than you probably realise.

Thank you for everything you do for your children and families.

We hope today reminds you that you’re appreciated, valued and never alone 🌿

Love from the Autism & Beyond team.

We thought it’d be fun to help families get to know our team a little better 💙
Starting with Rhiannon 👋
🐄 Favourite animal?
Cows.
“They’re calm, gentle and peaceful.”
☀️ Favourite time of the day?
Mornings.
“It’s the calm before the day starts. I get time with my girls and it feels like a fresh start.”
Sometimes the little things tell you a lot about a person.
And honestly… calm, gentle and grounded is exactly how we’d describe Rhiannon too 💙
