This June, men have two good reasons not to put their health off.

Men’s Health Week is a reminder to see a GP when something doesn’t feel right. Bowel Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder to complete the bowel screening test when it’s due, and to talk to a GP about any symptoms or family history.

If you’re aged 45–74, and haven’t done a bowel screening test in the last 2 years, it’s time to post your poo!!

A little awkward? Maybe. Worth it? 100%. 💩

Book in with your local GP, or learn more and order your kit at postyourpoo.com

📣 Good news for Caloundra and the southern Sunshine Coast.

We’ve commissioned a new Medicare Urgent Care Clinic for Caloundra, helping bring another care option closer to home for people across this rapidly growing part of the region.

Opening from 17 June 2026, the clinic will be operated by Ochre Health from an interim site in Little Mountain before moving to a larger, purpose-built facility in the Aura masterplanned community in 2027.

The clinic will be open 7 days, 8am to 5pm, with extended hours expected to start later in the year.

**When should you use a Medicare UCC?**

Medicare Urgent Care Clinics are for urgent but non-life-threatening health needs, especially when your regular GP is not available.

They can help with things like minor injuries, infections, wounds, minor burns and other urgent health concerns that are not life-threatening.

Your regular GP should still be your first choice for everyday and ongoing healthcare when available.

For life-threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) or go to your nearest emergency department.

The Caloundra Medicare Urgent Care Clinic was announced by Prime Minister the Hon Anthony Albanese MP on 7 June as part of a national milestone, with 137 Medicare UCCs now open nationally and 50 established in the 2025/26 financial year.

The service is funded through the Australian Government’s PHN program.

Yarning. Connection. Culture. Family.

Dementia care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples isn’t just about diagnosis, appointments and clinical care. It’s also about connection to Country, kin, stories, identity and wellbeing.

We want to say a heartfelt thank you to the Elders, community members and health workers across Central Queensland, Wide Bay and the Sunshine Coast whose voices and guidance helped shape this important new local resource.

Together, we have created a new Living Well with Dementia Journal, a culturally centred resource and one of two locally coordinated dementia journals.

Because Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples experience dementia at higher rates and younger ages, having resources that are respectful, familiar and culturally grounded matters.

This journal brings together practical health information, conversation tips and space for the things that keep people connected to identity and community throughout the dementia journey.

Free individual copies are now available to order. Services and community groups within the Country to Coast Queensland region can also request bulk orders of up to 20 copies.

Reconciliation Australia's National Reconciliation Week is a time to reflect, listen and act.

For our teams, this week has reinforced that reconciliation is an everyday commitment, reflected in how we listen, how we work with community and how we support a more culturally safe and responsive primary health system.

This week, we hosted the first events in our current Clinical Societies round, with the theme “Primary Care is ALL IN for First Peoples’ health through cultural leadership and clinical excellence.” These events are bringing together health professionals to explore how culturally responsive, evidence-informed care can help improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We also launched a new Living Well with Dementia Journal resource for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, developed with guidance from Elders, community members, health workers and local Aboriginal Medical Services.

Alongside this work, our Sunshine Coast-based staff joined young people, families and service providers at the Aunty Betty Memorial Walk on Kabi Kabi Country, as part of the Sunshine Coast Walk for Truth. Teams have also been participating in other National Reconciliation Week events across the region.

Across each of these moments, the message is clear – better health outcomes are built through trust, cultural safety, listening and strong relationships with community.

Thank you to the Elders, community members, partners and staff who continue to guide and strengthen our work and committment.
