I would like to extend my deepest thanks to the Maryborough community for the magnificent support shown for ANZAC Day this year. Many senior members of our community told me that the dawn service was the largest they have witnessed in more than forty years.

Standing at our beautiful memorial in Queens Park at first light, surrounded by so many paying their respects, was truly awe inspiring.
As a first time President of an RSL Sub Branch, I was humbled by the selfless dedication of our volunteers and fellow directors.

These people are golden. They embody the true Australian spirit; quiet service, reliability, and a willingness to step forward when it matters.
Our Ceremonial Director, Major Paul Davies, a serving officer in the Australian Defence Force, brought a brilliant new dimension to both the dawn and main services.

His professional, thoughtful, and historically grounded narrative enriched the experience for everyone present. Parade Marshal, Director Peter Green, drew on his Royal Australian Artillery background to deliver clear, concise, and unmistakably loud drill orders that our veterans immediately recognised and appreciated.

Watching the parade turn the corner at Woolworths brought audible gasps and more than a few tears. It was a powerful moment, visually striking and deeply symbolic.

Our RSL staff—Wendy, Cassie, and volunteers Lesley, Margaret, Michelle and the whole team ran the wreath tent with warmth, efficiency, and constant smiles and assisted our veterans and wreath layers. It was a hive of movement and good humour, showcasing a lovely and very Australian spirit of service.

We would also like to thank the following people and organisations for their unwavering support, without which we could not conduct our services:

Mayor George Seymore and the Fraser coast Council.
Mr Barrie Gott and the Maryborough Brass band.
Reverand Sue Wilson.
Mr Greig Bolderrow and the Maryborough Colonial and Military Museum.
The Maryborough Combined Schools Choir. Pipe Major, Hugh McBroom and the Maryborough Pipes and Drums.
Maryborough High School Principal and students.

Special thanks to Brynn North for reading the Anzac Requiem.

Maryborough SES, who along with the schools set up, and pack up after each ceremony.

The owners of our Land rovers and Jeeps.

The Maryborough Services and Citizens Club.

The Lions Club.

And our treasurers Michelle and Loz, who kept a weather eye on our spending for the occasion.

Finally, the catafalque party; drawn from the distinguished 9th Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment, stood with dignity and discipline throughout both services. These young servicemen performed a duty that has been carried out for centuries, and they did so with pride.

We would like to sincerely thanks the Commanding Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major for their contribution and support. Our Sub Branch is honoured by your presence, and we look forward to building strong and lasting ties with the unit.

To everyone who attended, contributed, or supported ANZAC Day in Maryborough this year; thank you. You helped create a day worthy of those we honour.

Chris NELSON
