Things I’ve been excited to find, try or buy this week as a skin cancer doctor:
1. UV arm sleeves uniqloau which I will recommend to my patients using fluorouracil cream on their arms.
2. larocheposayaunz studied the use of Cicaplast B5 cream during fluorouracil treatment and found it makes the treatment more tolerable as well as promoting healing post treatment.
3. asapskinproducts have a combination mineral and chemical sunscreen which offers high UV protection and the physical barrier to reduce pigment formation.
4. asapskinproducts mineral powder. To hide my pigmentation AND provide further physical barrier to reduce its formation.
5. My eucerin anti-pigmentation dual serum has arrived! This contains thiamidol a tyrosinase inhibitor which directly acts to inhibit pigment formation within the melanocytes.

I wish I could say I could look at any lesion and know exactly what it is, but that’s not always the case. This was obviously not normal, it was new and growing and because I couldn’t name it we did a biopsy.
Atypical fibroxanthoma usually arises in sites with chronic UV radiation exposure, more often on the head and neck of older men. When excised with 1cm margins reoccurrence is rare, as is metastatic disease.

often grows rapidly and can be tender, as was the case with this lesion

A very pretty clear cell acanthoma with its typical “string of pearls” vascular pattern. This benign lesion is quite rare, and when seen is often found on the lower legs of individuals aged between 40 and 70 years.
