A hair graft is not the same thing as a single hair.

Each graft is a naturally occurring follicular unit and may contain one, two, three or sometimes more hairs.

During a hair transplant, these grafts are extracted from the donor area, assessed and then placed into the recipient area according to the treatment plan.

Single-hair grafts are often useful around the hairline, while multi-hair grafts may be used where more coverage is needed.

This is why graft count alone does not tell the whole story. The type of grafts available and how they are distributed also matter.

2600 GRAFTS | MALE FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT

This patient underwent a 2600 graft FUE hair transplant after experiencing recession through the frontal hairline and thinning across the front of the scalp.

For this case, the aim was to restore coverage while keeping the hairline appropriate for the patient’s existing hair pattern and donor supply.

The after image shows the patient’s individual result at the time of photography, with greater coverage through the frontal area.

Seeing transplanted hairs shed in the first few weeks can be worrying, but it is a normal part of the process.

After the grafts are moved, some of the visible hairs can shed while the follicles enter a temporary resting phase. The follicles remain in place, and new growth generally starts to become noticeable from around the three-month mark.

Not every transplanted hair follows exactly the same timeline, which is why patience is such a big part of recovery.

It is set up for the kind of work hair restoration requires: careful graft handling, magnification, controlled lighting and a team working closely together for several hours.

For patients, a procedure day can be a long one, so the room is also designed to keep things calm and comfortable while the clinical team works through each stage.

2800 GRAFTS | MALE FUE HAIR TRANSPLANT

This patient underwent a 2800 graft FUE hair transplant to address recession through the frontal hairline and thinning behind it.

In this case, the treatment plan focused on rebuilding the front without making the hairline look too low or too dense for the patient’s existing hair.

The grafts were distributed across the frontal area to work with the hair that remained and the donor supply available.

Can Tight Hairstyles Cause Hair Loss?

Yes, they can.

Repeated tension from tight ponytails, braids, extensions or dreadlocks can pull on the hair over time and lead to a condition called traction alopecia.

Unlike male or female pattern hair loss, traction alopecia is caused by ongoing mechanical stress on the hair follicles. If that tension continues for long enough, the hair loss can become permanent.

Giving the hair and scalp regular breaks from tight styles can help reduce that ongoing strain.

Two patients can have very similar hair loss and still need completely different treatment plans.

For me, the consultation is where the important decisions are made. I look at age, donor hair, existing density, family history and how the hair loss is likely to progress.

Sometimes surgery is appropriate. Sometimes I would rather treat the hair loss first. And sometimes I think the best decision is to wait.

A hair transplant is one option. It is not automatically the right option for everyone.”
