New publication released today:

Securing the NDIS for future generations

The Australian Government has announced major reforms to “secure the NDIS for future generations” — aiming to make the system fairer, more sustainable, and focused on those with permanent and significant disability.

Here’s a quick breakdown of indicated changes.

Stronger eligibility & clearer boundaries

Access will focus more on functional capacity (not just diagnosis), with clearer rules about what the NDIS will and won’t fund.

Cracking down on fraud & misuse

New measures will increase oversight of providers, strengthen compliance, and reduce exploitation of participants.

Improving service quality

Changes to pricing, support coordination, and provider systems aim to deliver more consistent, higher-quality supports.

Rebuilding community participation

A new $200M Inclusive Communities Fund will support genuine social and community inclusion opportunities.

Slowing cost growth to protect the scheme
Adjustments to planning, budgets, and reassessments aim to keep the NDIS sustainable long-term.

Most changes will roll out gradually from late 2026 through to 2030, with new planning frameworks starting from April 2027.

The federal government has announced major changes to the NDIS, including a move toward automated, computer-generated support plans. The shift aims to streamline processes but has raised concerns about how well automated systems can reflect the individual needs of people with disability.

A breakthrough study offers new hope in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, revealing a novel way to clear toxic proteins from the brain and restore cognitive function. Researchers have developed nanoparticles that help repair the blood-brain barrier — the brain’s natural filter — allowing it to better remove harmful amyloid buildup linked to memory loss and cognitive decline. While still in early stages, this promising approach marks an important step toward future treatments that could slow or even reverse the effects of Alzheimer’s, bringing renewed optimism for millions affected worldwide.

Major Breakthrough in Huntington’s Research!

Scientists have just released preliminary results showing a 75% reduction in disease progression for Huntington’s disease using a single gene therapy treatment (AMT-130) over three years.
This therapy doesn’t just treat symptoms — it aims to shut off the harmful protein driving the disease.

There’s still a long road ahead (more trials, safety checks, regulatory approval), but this could be a turning point for families affected by Huntington’s.

Let’s hold hope for a future where this disease can be slowed — or even stopped

A one-time experimental treatment shows unprecedented success in slowing Huntington's disease, according to UCL researchers. FDA review expected in 2026.
