Breastfeeding places unique nutritional demands on your body — and what you eat plays an important role in both your energy levels and your baby’s development.

Including a variety of nutrient-dense foods can help support milk production, recovery, and overall wellbeing.

💧 Hydration matters — your fluid needs increase during lactation
🐟 Omega-3 fats (like salmon) support your baby’s brain and visual development
🥜 Healthy fats + protein (like peanut butter) help maintain energy and satiety
🥦 Vegetables provide key micronutrients such as folate and vitamin C
🌾 Whole grains (like oats) offer sustained energy and may support milk supply

Rather than focusing on “perfect eating,” aim for consistent, balanced nourishment — because caring for yourself is part of caring for your baby.

💛 Want a baby meal that is both practical and nourishing?

These chicken noodle meatballs are a great option for introducing protein-rich finger foods in a way that feels approachable and low-fuss.

They can support self-feeding, texture progression and family mealtime participation, all in one.

A lovely reminder that feeding babies can be simple.

When you’re breastfeeding, nutrition isn’t about restriction — but there are a few things worth being mindful of.

Some foods and drinks can pass into breastmilk or impact your baby indirectly, so small adjustments can make a meaningful difference.

⚠️ Alcohol — can transfer into breastmilk; timing and moderation matter
⚠️ Ultra-processed foods — often low in nutrients needed for recovery and milk production
⚠️ High-mercury fish — can affect your baby’s developing nervous system
⚠️ Caffeine — excessive intake may lead to unsettled sleep in some babies
⚠️ Artificial sweeteners — emerging research suggests potential impacts on gut health and taste preference development

The goal isn’t perfection — it’s informed, balanced choices that support both you and your baby during this important stage.

Many women are surprised to learn that menopause-like symptoms can start much earlier than expected.

Premature Ovarian Insufficiency ( ) affects up to 3.5% of women under 40 and can impact , bone density, heart health, and emotional wellbeing. The earlier it’s identified, the better the long-term outcomes can be.

This Thursday, our director Melanie McGrice will be hosting a free live webinar with Dr James Brown, reproductive endocrinologist and fertility specialist, to help raise awareness and share the latest evidence on how women can recognise and manage POI.

If you or someone you love has experienced irregular cycles, early menopause, or unexplained infertility, this session could provide valuable insights and support.
