Feeding challenges are real.
Support is available.
And early help can make a meaningful difference.
You don’t have to navigate it alone.

Want to help?
Rather than focusing on 'progress'; safety, support and trust are a much better return on investment.

The 'perfect eater' does not exist. So, instead of striving for unrealistic goals, let's focus on fostering support, understanding and compassion; because when eaters are supported, growth can happen.

Appearances are not always reality. Instead of making judgements that promote shame, let's look a little closer, and respond to what is underneath the surface.

Feeding challenges and neurodivergence often overlap.
Differences in sensory processing, interoception (body awareness), motor planning, and anxiety can all impact eating.
Understanding this connection helps us shift from “Why won’t they just eat?” to “How can we manage this better?"

Complex problems deserve complex solutions.
Feeding differences and eating disorders are not solved by trying harder, pushing through, or just eating more variety. They require thorough assessment, individualised support, and clinicians who can make accommodations that make engagement more manageable without compromising medical and emotional safety.
That is what we do.

Autistic children are five times more likely to experience feeding difficulties than their non-autistic peers.
Five times more likely.
This is not picky eating. This is not a parenting problem. This is not something that resolves with enough persistence or the right approach at the dinner table.
It is common. It is complex. It deserves proper support.
(Sharp et al., 2013, as cited in Gent et al., 2024, Child: Care, Health and Development)

Feeding differences are misunderstood. By health professionals. By schools. By well-meaning family members who have read one article.
The misconceptions are not harmless. They delay diagnosis, erode trust, and leave people feeling like the problem is them.
Swipe through four of the most common ones we see, and what the evidence actually says.

"Picky eater" does not cover it.
Feeding differences can mean gagging at the smell of food cooking in another room. Eating from a handful of safe foods and genuinely not being able to expand that list. Leaving events early because there is nothing you can eat. Mealtimes that are a source of daily dread.
This is not a preference. It is not a phase. It is not something that resolves with enough exposure or the right reward chart.
It is a real challenge, and it deserves real support.

May 6th is International No Diet Day.
Dieting is the single biggest behavioural risk factor for developing an eating disorder. Not stress. Not trauma history. Dieting.
Diet culture is not a wellness movement. It is an industry that profits from convincing you your body is a problem to be solved.
It is not.
Food is not a moral issue. Bodies don't need to do trends. Health is not one size fits all.
You can opt out.
If you are not sure how to opt out, that's what we are here for.
