Over the years as a dietitian, I’ve learned so much from the people I’ve worked with. Their cultures, their stories, their relationships with food, and the very different circumstances that shape how they eat.

And it’s why I want to talk more about nutrition privilege.

Eating is nuanced. It’s often influenced by income, culture, geography, trauma, disability, mental load, and our relationship with food. There is no one size fits all.

If nourishing yourself feels hard right now, know that is not a personal failure or a reflection of your willpower, your worth, or your character.

You deserve support that meets you where you are, without judgement 🤍

We live in a world that often tells us to eat for aesthetics, to look a certain way, to keep us looking young

…but what if we focused on eating in a way that helps us LIVE WELL?

Longevity isn’t about shrinking your body, chasing a certain look, or avoiding change. Because our bodies are here to carry us through our various life stages and it is up to us to support our body through all the seasons it will move through.

It is about recognising that health is not about one component, but bringing together many different components, to allow you to be able to embrace all areas of your world.

What if the ways we nourished ourselves was giving us the opportunity to ‘see what our bodies are able to do when fuelled & supported well’ 🫶

A reflection question we would like to leave you with is- What are the steps that are going to support you in 10, 20, 50 years?

Feeling anxious about food this Easter? 🐇You’re not alone.

Festive periods can stir up stress, especially when you’re working on your relationship with food. ❤️‍🩹

So here are a few gentle reminders:
▫️Food is more than just fuel - its connection, nostalgia, comfort.
▫️It’s okay to enjoy the foods that bring you joy, even the ones that feel “off limits.”
▫️Give yourself permission to enjoy the foods you love, today or any day. You don’t need to earn or justify eating.
▫️Check in with yourself, if things are feeling hard, be curious not critical. Ask yourself how you’re feeling without judgement - not what you’re eating.

This time isn’t about being perfect - it’s about enjoyment, including a variety of foods that you enjoy - remember it’s only a small part of the year!

‼️So let’s take guilt off the table‼️

And if you’re struggling, you’re not alone - feel free to send me a DM if you need a bit of extra support this Easter.

Part 2: 5 (more) things we hear about nutrition all the time VS THE EVIDENCE

Nutrition can be confusing, one person says one thing, another says the complete opposite, and suddenly you’re left wondering what (or who) to trust

Sophie and I see this all the time in clinic! Clients come in feeling overwhelmed and unsure whether they’re doing the “right” thing because nutrition advice is so noisy online!

So we wanted to cut through some of that noise and simplify it. We’re sharing some more common questions we’ve been asked recently, alongside what the evidence actually says (minus the noise).

So many of you know, my philosophy to nutrition is looking at what we can ADD to our diets rather than remove!
One of the easiest ways to do that? Levelling up your meals with legumes🫘

And because it’s pulses week I thought I’d share my go-to legume level-ups:
✨ Lentils stirred into pasta sauce
✨ Beans in Mexican-style dishes
✨ Pulses added into soups
✨ Chickpeas or lentils tossed through salads
✨ Pulses in curries
✨ Tofu in stir-fries

These small additions give you fibre, plant protein, sustained energy, vitamins and minerals - and bonus, they’re budget-friendly too 💸

Small additions. Big nutrition wins.
✨ Level up with legumes ✨

What’s your favourite way to Level Up with Legumes?

You know I’m all about nutrition by addition and the American Gut Project recommends aiming for 30+ different plant foods a week!

Not just fruit & veg - I mean grains, legumes, tofu & tempeh, nuts, seeds… the whole rainbow. 🌈

Why?
✨ More vitamins, minerals & antioxidants
✨ Different tastes, textures & aromas = more eating pleasure
✨ Fibre-rich goodness for your gut & keeping you fuller for longer

Not hitting 30 yet? That’s completely okay - every little addition counts, so just start with one new plant at a time! 🤗

💡 Quick ways to boost plant variety:
-Mix veg (eggplant, capsicum, legumes) into pastas, curries & salads
-Toss mixed berries into breakfasts or desserts (fresh or frozen!)
-Use mixed cans of legumes, salads or frozen veg packs
-Sprinkle seaweed on salads, poke bowls & dumplings
-Try pulse pasta or mixed wholegrains

Abit of a rant (but an important one) ⚠️

If you’ve ever felt confused, guilty or pressured by health and nutrition ads on social media, TV or even billboards… this one’s for you.

Real nutrition (and health) support should feel grounded, evidence-based and supportive - not shamey, extreme or panic-inducing.

Before you buy in, ask yourself:
• Is this evidence-based?
• Is it coming from a qualified health professional I trust?
• Does this actually align with my values, health needs and goals?

You deserve better than clickbait wellness culture 💛

Stop eating like your favourite influencer!

Not all nutrition advice is equal.
What works for one person (especially online) isn’t automatically right for you.
Context, evidence and individual needs matter.

Just because they skip breakfast, take xyz supplements or cut carbs doesn’t mean you should!!

There are lots of things that could be happening under the surface of your favourite influencer that you might not be able to tell just by looking at them: low energy availability, hormone disruption, fatigue, injury risk, mental health changes or disordered eating.

Your body isn’t an experiment.
Choose nutrition advice that supports your own individual health needs, not trends.

If you’d like 1:1 nutrition support for your individual needs, feel free to send me a DM 🤗
