Growth doesn’t always mean doing more. Sometimes it means recognising what’s no longer working — and having the confidence to change it.

In business, recruitment, leadership and life, it’s easy to keep repeating the same processes simply because “that’s how we’ve always done it.”

But if the same approach keeps giving you the same result, it might be time to ask:

Is this actually helping me move forward?

Change can feel uncomfortable, but staying stuck is usually far more costly.

What’s one habit, process or way of thinking you’ve had to change in order to grow?

August was another busy month at Attention To Dental, and September is already shaping up to be even bigger.

We’ve continued growing our candidate networks across Australia, welcoming new dental professionals, supporting practices with both temp and permanent recruitment, and strengthening our presence in Sydney and Perth.

As we head into September, we’re speaking with Dental Assistants, Practice Managers, Dentists, Receptionists, OHTs and Hygienists who may be considering their next opportunity.

And if you’re a dental practice planning ahead for the final months of the year, now is a great time to start the recruitment conversation.

Swipe through to see what’s been happening and where the opportunities are.

Candidates and practices — let’s talk.

Why I do what I do.

After more than 37 years in the dental industry, I’ve seen just how much the right people can change the way a practice feels and functions.

I’ve worked in clinical, management and leadership roles, so I understand the pressure practices face when they’re short-staffed, the frustration of making the wrong hire, and how important it is to find someone who genuinely fits the team.

That’s why I started Attention To Dental.

I wanted recruitment to feel more personal. More considered. Less like sending a resume and hoping for the best.

For me, it’s about understanding the practice, understanding the candidate, and bringing the right people together.

Because when you get that match right, it doesn’t just fill a position. It can improve morale, strengthen a team, help a practice grow and create a better experience for everyone who walks through the door.

That’s the part of this business I love most.

Temp vs Permanent — Which Is Best for Your Dental Practice?

There is no single right answer, because the best option depends on what your practice needs right now.

For some practices, bringing in a temp is the smartest move because it gives immediate support without committing to a permanent hire before you are ready. Temps can be ideal for annual leave, unexpected absences, busy periods, maternity cover or simply giving your existing team some breathing room while you recruit properly.

Permanent recruitment, on the other hand, is usually the better choice when you know the role is ongoing and you want someone who can become part of the team, understand your systems, build relationships with patients and contribute to the long-term culture of the practice.

The mistake many practices make is treating these as two completely separate options, when in reality they can work very well together.

A temp can help keep the practice running while you take the time to find the right permanent person, rather than rushing into a hire because the team is under pressure. In some cases, temping can also give both the practice and the candidate a chance to see whether the fit feels right before anything long term is considered.

The key is to look at the actual problem you are trying to solve.

If you need immediate coverage, flexibility or short-term support, a temp may be the better option.

If you need stability, continuity and someone who can grow with the practice, permanent recruitment is usually the stronger long-term solution.

At Attention To Dental, we support practices with both temporary staffing and permanent recruitment, because sometimes the best staffing solution is not one or the other — it is knowing when to use each.

Why Recruitment Costs Less Than Being Short-Staffed

Recruitment comes with a cost, but so does leaving a role vacant — and that cost is often much higher than practices realise.

When your team is short-staffed, the impact can quickly spread across the entire practice. Appointment books may need to be reduced, clinicians can lose valuable chair time, existing staff take on extra pressure, and patient experience can start to suffer.

Then there’s the time spent by Practice Managers and owners reviewing applications, chasing candidates, arranging interviews and trying to keep the practice running at the same time.

A vacant position isn’t simply an empty chair. It can affect productivity, team morale, patient flow and ultimately your bottom line.

Investing in the right recruitment support means you can focus on finding the right person, rather than making a rushed hire because your team is stretched.

And while that permanent search is happening, temporary staff can help keep your practice running smoothly and reduce the pressure on your existing team.

At Attention To Dental, we understand dental because we come from dental. We help practices find experienced, carefully screened professionals while keeping the recruitment process moving.

Sometimes the more expensive option isn’t recruitment.

It’s waiting too long to recruit.

If your practice is currently short-staffed or you know you have a vacancy coming up, get in touch with Attention To Dental and start planning before the pressure builds.
