Apparently, I've been told that being a dentist, running three practices, mentoring dentists, training teams, planning expansions and dreaming up another ten ideas before breakfast is not a sustainable management strategy. 😂

So... it's time to find another Magical Soul to join us!

A little about us…
Magical Smiles started with one practice in Caroline Springs in 2012. Today, we have three growing locations across Melbourne's west, each with the capacity of five chairs and more.

We've never been the kind of practice that waits for everyone else before trying something new.

We're thinkers, innovators and lifelong learners. We continually invest in advanced dental technology, world-class education and clinical expertise. From Fotona lasers and digital dentistry to airway-focused care, orthodontics, implants and comprehensive smile rehabilitation we love pushing the boundaries of what's possible for our patients.

You name it, we've probably explored it, trained in it or invested in it already. (Sometimes before the accountant has recovered from the previous investment. 😂)

We've invested in top-end technology and exceptional dentists. Now we need equally exceptional leadership.

✅ Takes ownership from beginning to END. (Following up on your follow-up isn't my favourite hobby!)

✅ Has the emotional intelligence to recognise people's strengths and help bring out their best.
✅ Thinks ahead, loves innovation and genuinely wants to build something bigger.
Above all, someone with honesty, integrity, fairness and the courage to do the right thing, even when nobody is watching.
Dental experience is valuable, but exceptional leadership, accountability and alignment with our values matter just as much.
And preferably someone who can occasionally tell me, "Rachna, that's a brilliant idea, but can we finish implementing the first ten?" 🤣

After years of practising dentistry, one thing still amazes me…
How often patients come for orthodontic consultations already knowing what treatment they want.
“Invisalign or braces?”
“How long will it take?”
“How much?”
“Will I need extraction ?"

Everyone wants to know HOW to fix crooked teeth.
But very rarely does someone ask…

“WHY did my teeth become crowded in the first place?”
And I don't expect patients to know what questions to ask. That's our responsibility as clinicians.

For over a decade, I've deliberately invested in learning beyond traditional orthodontics to myofunctional therapy, tongue ties, airway, breathing, TMJ, growth and development, and advanced dental technologies.
Why?
Because every discipline gave me another lens through which to see the same patient.
Today, when I see crowded teeth, I don't just see teeth that need moving.
I look at tongue posture, muscle function, breathing, jaw development, bite, airway and possible contributing factors.

I want to understand the bigger picture before deciding on treatment.Of course, Invisalign and braces are wonderful tools. I use them!
But knowing HOW to use a tool and knowing WHEN, WHY and WHAT to combine it with are very different things.

The more you know, the more possibilities you see.

Her brother previously underwent orthodontic treatment involving extractions and braces. Mum came wanting to explore another possibility for her daughter.
By combining myofunctional therapy, expansion and orthodontics, we've achieved this lovely progress within months, without extracting any teeth in her individual case.

I brought my knowledge, experience, technology and treatment planning.
She brought her discipline, consistency, trust and beautiful attitude.
Magic happens when everyone brings their best. ✨
This is why I believe our role as general dentists goes beyond providing the treatment someone walks in asking for.

We don't have to perform every procedure ourselves, but we should continue expanding our understanding, recognise our limitations and collaborate with the right experts.

Patients don't always know what else is possible.
They're trusting us to help them understand their options.

And I take that trust very seriously.
I keep investing in technology and seeking knowledge from people who know more than I do.
Not for another certificate on the wall.

Because I never want the limits of my knowledge to become the limits of the options I present to my patients.

That's what integrative dentistry means to me.
Sometimes thinking outside the box is simply the result of spending years learning what's beyond the box.
Confidence comes from competence. And competence requires continuous learning.

I wanted to share this moment because it reminded me why, after all these years, going to work has never truly felt like work and why my practices have always felt more like home. ❤️

Today, one of our beautiful patients returned from her break we gave her in between her procedure , When she came back, she was carrying the most beautiful little gifts for the whole team

She said they would bring us good luck, happiness and peace, and that they would suit the decor of our brand-new practice and help make it feel like home 🥰

To be held in someone’s thoughts when they are simply going about their own day is one of the purest forms of kindness.

Every time she comes for her treatment visits, she thanks us for doing so much for her. And honestly, sometimes I wonder, “What did we do that was so special? We are only doing our job.”
Perhaps that is the answer.

Just do your job the best way you can, with the best intention you can. You may not realise how deeply another person feels that intention.

Her small act of kindness did not end when she handed us those charms. I told the team. I shared it with my family and friends. And now I am sharing it with all of you.That is how kindness travels. 🙏

😜 People often ask why I remain so energetic and happy.
It is difficult to explain, except to say: how could work feel empty when the people you care for return that care so generously?
My patients hug me, thank me. They care about me. They trust me and remind me that they were thinking about me...

Of course, every day is not perfect. Even our best intentions may not always create the outcome we hoped for.

Good intentions do not replace skill, responsibility or accountability. But when your genuine intention is always to help and you listen, remain honest and take responsibility people can feel it.

When we stop treating patients like transactions and start treating them like people, they often give that humanity back to us.

The walls and decor may create a beautiful practice, but it is the people inside who make it feel like home. ❤️

When we get asked how do you deliver such crazy transformations well ...

👊Dangerous to the belief that beautiful results have to be painful , expensive or would take foreever .

What makes us dangerously good?
We look deeper into the root cause
We diagnose properly and we have the knowledge, experience and technology to make it happen.

Sometimes people are not out of options.
They just haven’t been shown the right one yet.

Someone recently asked for recommendations for a good Porcelain Veneer course, he's been practicing for over a decade .

And it got me thinking ..
Whenever someone asks, “Which course should I do?”, our first instinct is often to start listing courses.

But maybe the first question should be:
Where are you right now in your journey?
Because 10 years of dentistry can look completely different for two dentists.
One may have spent 10 years doing high-volume restorative dentistry in private practice.
Another may have worked predominantly in public dentistry.
One may have done thousands of restorations and hundreds of crowns.
Another may have had very little exposure to comprehensive treatment planning or cosmetic cases.
So how can the same course be the right next step for everyone?
Before recommending the solution, we need to understand the starting point.
What do you already know?
What have you already mastered?
Where is your actual knowledge gap?
And what is the next skill you need not the tenth skill ahead?
This applies far beyond dentistry.
Sometimes people ask for a course when what they really need is repetition.
Sometimes they ask for more technical training when what they need is diagnostic knowledge.
Sometimes they need mentorship.
Sometimes they already have the knowledge they simply haven't had enough exposure to build confidence.

And sometimes, before learning how to do something, they need to become better at understanding when to do it, why to do it, and when not to do it at all.

I believe learning should be a journey:
Know where you are → identify the gap → master the next step → practise it → then move forward.

Because collecting courses doesn't automatically create mastery.
The best recommendation isn't always, “Here's the best course.”

Sometimes the best response is:
“Tell me where you are in your journey first. Then I can help you figure out where you need to go next.”

That is how we should mentor.
That is how we should teach.
And perhaps, that is how we should help people grow.

A great opportunity for all my dental colleagues who want to learn more about tongue ties and frenectomies.

Whether you currently perform frenectomies or not, it’s important to understand when they are indicated, when they are not, and how to identify the right patients. Having the knowledge helps you make better clinical decisions and ensures patients receive the most appropriate care.

So if you’ve ever been curious about this area of dentistry, I’d definitely recommend registering.

You can never have too much knowledge. Every course, every lecture, and every perspective helps us become better clinicians.
