💜 March is Autoimmune Awareness Month

This month, we take the time to acknowledge and support people living with autoimmune diseases - conditions where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells.

These diseases can affect daily life in many ways, often causing fatigue, pain, inflammation, and fluctuating health challenges. Some common autoimmune conditions include
- Rheumatoid arthritis,
- Lupus,
- Multiple sclerosis, and
- Crohn’s disease.

At InCare, we understand the impact these conditions can have on people and their families. We see the importance of compassion, flexibility, and support to help individuals live as well as possible, despite the challenges autoimmune diseases can bring.

This month, we encourage everyone to learn more, listen to the experiences of those affected, and continue fostering understanding and empathy in our communities. Together, we can make a real difference.

What’s one thing you wish more people understood about autoimmune conditions?

Sometimes progress isn’t loud.

It isn’t big milestones or sudden changes.
Sometimes it’s tolerating a sound that used to overwhelm them.
Trying a food they’ve refused for months.
Staying in the room a little longer.
Allowing someone new to sit beside them.

To others, these moments look small, but families know they’re everything.

Some children don’t need pushing, rewards, or stricter routines.
They need time, consistency, and support that understands how they experience the world.

When support is matched properly, children don’t just “comply," they feel safe.
And when they feel safe, they engage.

That’s the approach we focus on every day.

If your child has been struggling with supports, avoiding sessions, or just hasn’t connected with workers before, it doesn’t always mean they don’t want help; sometimes the support just hasn’t fit yet.

You’re always welcome to reach out for a chat, even if you’re unsure where to start.

What makes NDIS housing suitable?

It’s not just about the building, it’s about the person living in it.

Suitable NDIS housing should always prioritise:
✔️ Safety, accessible design, risk management, and informed support
✔️ Support match, the right staffing, routines, and compatibility
✔️ Dignity & quality of life, choice, privacy, independence, and comfort

When housing is done well, it supports stability, well-being, and genuine independence.
When it’s not, people are left unsupported in spaces that don’t meet their needs.

Safe. Matched. Human.
And always participant-first.

If you’re navigating NDIS housing options or unsure whether a current setup is truly suitable, we’re here to help.

Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) can change how a person thinks, feels, communicates, and functions day-to-day, but it does not change their value, dignity, or potential.

Many ABI impacts are invisible. Fatigue, memory challenges, emotional regulation, and processing speed often need structured, patient, and individualised support.

At InCare, we focus on routine, safety, cognitive support, and person-centred goals, so participants can build confidence and regain independence at their own pace.

Support should be clinical when needed and human at all times.

Meaningful community access isn’t about “keeping busy” or ticking boxes.
It’s about belonging.

It means feeling safe.
It means being understood.
It means doing things that matter to you, at your pace, in your way.

At InCare, community access is always:
• participant-led
• purposeful
• dignified
• built around real connection

Because being part of the community should feel like exactly that: being part of something. 💚
