Mia discusses how winter can affect energy, mood, sleep and overall well being for the whole family. While colder months often bring more challenges, simple routines around sleep, meals, movement, hydration and time outdoors can help create a greater sense of balance and resilience.

Small, consistent habits often have a bigger impact than people realise when it comes to supporting family health through winter.

Winter has a way of highlighting different things for different families.

For some, it is the increase in coughs, colds, and disrupted sleep. For others, it is noticing that children seem a little more tired, a little less resilient, or that routines which normally run smoothly suddenly require more effort than they did a few months ago. Sometimes it is not one specific thing at all, but a general sense that everyone is operating with a little less capacity than usual.

What we often notice in clinic is that families are usually very aware of these shifts, even if they do not always stop to acknowledge them. Life continues, routines carry on, and people adapt to what is in front of them.

But paying attention to seasonal changes can be surprisingly helpful. They often provide clues about what a family may need more of during that particular time of year, whether that is more rest, more downtime, more nourishing meals, more time outdoors, more connection, or simply a little more flexibility in expectations.

We'd love to hear from you.

For many families, winter becomes a season of reacting to whatever is happening in the moment.

Someone is recovering from an illness, routines are being adjusted, sleep is a little disrupted, and before long the weeks seem to disappear without much opportunity to check in on how everyone is actually tracking.

What often gets overlooked during busy periods is that health is not only about managing problems when they arise. It is also about creating the conditions that help children stay well, recover well, and build resilience over time.

Winter can be a valuable opportunity to support the foundations of health, from nutrition and sleep to nervous system regulation, energy, immunity, and overall well being.

Andra highlights the important role sleep plays in supporting the immune system, especially during winter. When the body is well rested, it is better equipped to respond to infections and recover when illness occurs. Consistent sleep routines, reduced screen time and allowing extra rest when needed can all make a meaningful difference to overall health and resilience.

Last call to join us live for The Gut-Brain Breakthrough.
This free online masterclass is being led by Keonie Moore, founder of ReMed Kids Clinic and creator of The Moore Method®.

For more than 19 years, Keonie has supported families navigating complex neurological, behavioural and immune-related conditions. Her work includes supporting more than 500 families, contributing to peer-reviewed medical literature, speaking at 5 international conferences, receiving international recognition for her work in children’s health and PANS/PANDAS, and being featured in Mamamia.

But this work is also personal. Keonie’s own experience as a mother shaped the questions, research and clinical framework behind The Moore Method®.

Inside this free masterclass, Keonie will explore the critical relationship between the gut, immune system, neuroinflammation, brain function, genetics, nutritional biochemistry and environmental triggers.

People often describe feeling more exhausted during winter and assume it is simply because the weather is colder or the days are shorter.

While seasonal changes absolutely influence energy, winter fatigue is usually a bit more layered than that. Sleep can become disrupted, immune systems are often under more pressure, movement decreases, stress accumulates more easily, and many people spend far less time outdoors or exposed to natural light than they normally would.

For some families, winter also tends to expose areas where the body was already struggling to keep up underneath. Nutrient deficiencies, nervous system depletion, poor recovery, ongoing stress, or repeated illness can all contribute to fatigue feeling heavier and more persistent during this time of year.

This is often why people can still feel exhausted even after resting more or trying to “push through” until the season changes.

Looking at fatigue in context usually gives a much clearer picture of what may actually need support.

Winter mornings often have a different feel to them.

Many parents notice that getting children moving in the morning seems to take a little longer during the colder months. The usual routine that worked perfectly a few months ago can suddenly feel harder. Children may be slower to wake, less enthusiastic about getting ready, or more easily frustrated by things that would not normally bother them.

In many cases, there is nothing wrong. Winter simply asks a bit more of everyone. There is less daylight, people are spending more time indoors, sleep can be disrupted, are more common, and families are often trying to maintain the same pace while carrying a little more fatigue than usual.

This is why small adjustments can sometimes have a bigger impact than we expect. Preparing things the night before, allowing a gentler start to the morning, offering a warm breakfast, and keeping routines predictable can help reduce some of the friction that naturally builds up during this time of year.

It is not about creating the perfect morning routine. It is more about recognising that winter can affect children differently and making a few practical changes that help the whole family start the day feeling a little more settled.

A parent once said to us:
“Everyone keeps talking about my child’s behaviour, but nobody is asking what might be driving it.”

And that is exactly why this conversation matters.
Because focus, anxiety, emotional regulation, sleep, OCD tendencies, tics and behaviour do not exist in isolation.

The brain matters.
But the brain is connected to the rest of the body.
The gut.
The immune system.
Inflammation.
Nutritional biochemistry.
Genetics.
Environmental triggers.

For some children, these systems may be playing a much bigger role than many families have ever been told.

That is what Keonie Moore will be exploring in our free online masterclass:

Winter can be a demanding season for families.

Between disrupted routines, recurring illnesses, changes in energy levels, emotional ups and downs, and the general pace of family life, it’s not uncommon for parents to feel like everyone needs a little more support than usual.

If you've been noticing changes in your child’s health, mood, sleep, behaviour, resilience, or overall wellbeing this winter, an appointment can provide the opportunity to step back and look at the broader picture.

We take a holistic approach to children's health, helping families understand the factors that may be influencing how their child is feeling and functioning, while creating practical and personalised strategies to support them through the season.

🧠 Could your child's gut be influencing their brain?

When most parents think about ADHD, autism, anxiety, OCD, emotional regulation or behavioural challenges, they naturally think about the brain.

But what if some of the answers you've been searching for aren't in the brain at all?

Research is increasingly revealing a powerful connection between the:
✔ Gut
✔ Immune System
✔ Neuroinflammation
✔ Brain

And understanding this connection is changing the way we think about children's health.

Over the past 19 years, I've worked with more than 500 families navigating complex neurological, behavioural and immune-related conditions.

I've seen firsthand how looking beyond symptoms and diagnoses can help parents better understand what may be influencing their child's health and development.

That's why I'm hosting a FREE online masterclass:

The Gut-Brain Breakthrough: Why Some Children Continue to Struggle Despite Therapy, Medication and the Best Intentions
