Keeping your email account secure is crucial, as it serves as the key to accessing many accounts and software - including our financial plan management platform.

Here are a few important things to look out for when keeping you account secure:

✔️Multi Factor Authentication - Using two or more methods to verify your identity adds an extra layer of protection to your account.

✔️Strong password - A strong password made up of unrelated phrases can make it easier for you to remember while being tough for others to guess.

✔️Set up account recovery options - Set up recovery options to assist in resetting your password if you lose access to your account.

✔️Keep your devices and software up to date - Regular updates provide the latest security bug fixes for your software.

With MOIRA FPM’s recent transition to the Kismet Platform, it’s more important than ever to secure your email account especially as critical PDFs and your one-time PIN for account access are delivered directly to your inbox. For more information on how to stay cyber-safe, visit the Australian Government Cyber Security website: https://www.cyber.gov.au/protect-yourself/securing-your-email/email-security/secure-your-email

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day 🌏

With over 20% of Australians living with a disability it’s critical that accessibility is not an afterthought, but built into the way we design and communicate from the start.

At MOIRA, we’re committed to making our online spaces more inclusive. Some of the ways we do this include using high-contrast colours and creating intuitive, easy-to-navigate layouts.

Accessibility also means recognising the diversity within our community. That’s why we’ve recently introduced Mandarin translation on the MOIRA Connect support group page—helping more people connect with and benefit from our services.

Here are a few simple ways you can improve accessibility:
• Choose clear, legible fonts (avoid overly decorative typography)
• Add alt text that describes meaning - not just appearance
• Ensure buttons and links are clearly labelled
• Test your site using a keyboard only, can you navigate easily?

Accessibility is a journey and every step forward matters.

We’ve all heard the names of NDIS roles thrown around, understanding who does what can make your experience smoother.

Local Area Coordinators aka LACs assist participants in understanding the supports available to them in their local community, connecting them with the NDIS.

Support Coordinators focus on optimising a plan, finding the supports that would be most beneficial for you.

An NDIS Planner works with an individual with a disability to develop an NDIS plan.

With these key words we hope you clearly understand some NDIS key roles.

Our phone lines are available!

Following our recent transition to a new plan management system, Kismet Platform, we’ve experienced higher than usual call volumes since Monday. While this has meant that some calls were regrettably missed, we want to clarify that our phone lines are fully operational. Our team is actively working through calls and emails as quickly as possible and returning all your enquiries.

If you’re unable to reach a team member by phone, please email us at [email protected] and we will respond as soon as we can.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this transition. We remain committed to supporting you every step of the way.

Swipe through the carousel to learn how the process works and what to expect.

Once your child is approved for the NDIS, you’ll be invited to a planning meeting where you’ll discuss their needs, goals, and the types of supports that can help them thrive.

Choosing Financial Plan Management means:
✔ We take care of all invoices and budgets
✔ You keep full choice and control over your providers
✔ Less admin, more time to focus on your child

Have you ever wondered how OT’s understand what support you need?

The World Health Organisation Disability Assessment Schedule, aka WHODAS 2.0, is a simple tool that helps OTs understand how health conditions impact everyday life — from thinking and moving, to self-care, relationships and community participation.

The assessment focuses on real-world activities, asking questions like - can someone join a footy game with friends, cook dinner without pain, or catch public transport to a concert?

Want to learn more? Read more about WHODAS in our article on the Arliam website: https://www.moira.org.au/arliam/resources/219104-what-is-whodas-and-why-do-ots-love-it

Does your child find school transitions challenging?

You’re not alone — and small, supportive strategies at home can make a big difference. Try these OT‑approved tips:
1. Sensory Prep Kit: Fidget toys, or headphones in their backpack for quick calm-downs.
2. Visual Timers: Sand timer + checklist: "Pack bag, push chair under desk, line up.”
3. Heavy Work Breaks: Try grounding activities like bear crawls, wall pushes, or carrying something with a little weight. These help regulate energy and focus.
4. Zone Check‑Ins: Use a feelings chart (green/yellow/red/blue) and pair it with a matching tool — like deep breaths, a sip of water, or a quiet corner — to build emotional awareness and self-regulation.

✨ Want personalised strategies tailored to your child?
Consider booking a chat with one of our therapists — we’re here to help you create routines that truly work for your family. Plus we have no waitlists for Occupational Therapy!
