Im pretty sure I can make it on my own now but only time will tell!!

Today my dad taught me how to make pizzaā€¦ his family opened the first pizza restaurant in Dandenong that he worked in when he was a young man.

So many years later, I decided to ask my dad if he would teach me so that the Fontana pizza making tradition would live on through meā€¦ so this is my first ever pizza dough.

This dough will make two pizzas. Weā€™ll eat these tomorrow for Christmas lunchā€¦ yep, weā€™re having pizza for Christmas šŸ¤¤.

Iā€™ll post some pics of the pizza tomorrow.

This is freedom!

Recently Iā€™ve been thinking about what my definition of freedom has been during the pandemicā€¦ (and likely well before the pandemic)ā€¦

Because I didnā€™t truly believe that I was freeā€¦

Because the government had taken away my rights. They took away my jobs, my ability to go clothes shopping and to eat out at restaurants and to work out at the gym all because of my choice to not put what I perceive to be a potentially dangerous substance in my bodyā€¦ my physical temple I have done my best to honor and listen to for years now.

And whilst all those things are true, Iā€™ve come to the realization this past week that I was already free this entire time!! (Took me a while but Iā€™m feeling grateful for the light bulb moment šŸ˜‰!)

But I sure as hell wasnā€™t behaving like it!

I was moping around. I was blaming the government. I was having pity parties when people didnā€™t show up for my online classes. I was living in victim consciousness (despite thinking I didnā€™t do that anymore).

So as an unjabbed and pro-choice but also anti-vax person (yes I can be pro and anti at the same time), who has had many of my so called ā€œfreedomsā€ taken away, I was truly behaving like a person who was not free.

I was still

I believed that someone else GAVE me my freedom.

That it wasnā€™t just mine. My birthright.

But not anymore.

I am and always will be free. Because being free is a state of mind.

Being free is something you create in your mind and it translates into your outer world.

Being free is not found in a clothing store or a restaurant or a job or having a lot of money.

So they can take away my access to amenities and Iā€™ll still be free.

They can take away my right to work and Iā€™ll still be free.

They can kick me out on the street or lock me up in jail and Iā€™ll still be free.

What matters are my beliefs and my perspective.

Thereā€™s a quote I heard today (no idea of itā€™s origin)

ā€œIt is done unto you as you believe.ā€

(Side note, is it a totally coincidence that on the day I realized this, I read that unjabbed people were now allowed to shop in retail again?? Just to be clear, I donā€™t believe in coincidences) >>> continued in comments

Trying to think of a caption that somehow draws a parallel between the bu****it this country is experiencing as our lockdown is about to be extended, yet again.

Finding gratitude in the small things is important. Walking home with my 4yo nephew tonight, we talked about all the things we were grateful for today and the list was long.

Iā€™m grateful for a lot of things, and itā€™s this attitude that will get me through and keep me fighting hard for our freedom, not afraid to stand up for what I believe in (even though it is scary).

All this will come to an end eventually, nothing is permanent. I believe it will go in the favor of the people, that love and truth win. But I might have to watch some things burn even further to the ground before they do.
