Yesterday, our SLES group from Seaford travelled into the city using public transport as part of our skill-building activities. 🚆🌻 SASI and Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

We already knew there were replacement buses on our line… but we were up for the challenge!

Recently, the group created Hidden Disabilities Sunflower badges and many participants proudly wore their badges, sunflower lanyards, or wristbands throughout the day.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a globally recognised symbol that discreetly lets others know a person may need additional support, patience, understanding, or time. 🌻

Hidden disabilities can include:
Autism, ADHD, anxiety, PTSD, sensory processing challenges, chronic pain, epilepsy, Tourette syndrome, dementia, hearing or vision impairments, learning disabilities, mental health conditions and many other neurological or medical conditions that may not be immediately visible.

Our SLES participants are now hoping to help promote awareness of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative across SASI and beyond by:

🌻 Creating resources and awareness materials
🌻 Sharing information with staff and the community
🌻 Supporting hidden disability awareness
🌻 Creating sunflower badges and posters
🌻 Assisting with social media and community education

Many organisations already recognise the Sunflower initiative, including airports, public transport, healthcare services, shopping centres, universities, and workplaces.

Sometimes a small symbol can make a very big difference. 💛

Functional Capacity Assessments; what are they, and how can they support your goals?

We hear from Occupational Therapist Ivan Ng, who breaks down FCA’s and shares his professional insight into how they can open doors to more tailored supports and greater independence for individuals in our community.

Whether you're exploring Supported Independent Living (SIL), or Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), this is a must-read.
